Wtf, their games were practically home games for this tournament. WHY?!
Why didn't other teams get this treatment?

Long story, that regional was moved from Greensboro NC by the NCAA because of a particular piece of legislation passed here in NC that was deemed discriminatory by some.. Otherwise Duke and NC would have had pretty much home games being less than an hour from Greensboro..

Sometimes I wonder how the NCAA can't get their shit together enough to set up the brackets in such a way that everyone has to play a neutral game. Wtf. How hard is it to look at a goddamm map

Typically the higher seeds are rewarded with games closer to home. The fan mix wouldn't have been a whole lot different if this game had been in Greensboro. The only difference is that there would have been a higher ratio of UNC to USC fans. Duke does not have a large fan base in North Carolina. They would have been better off in Buffalo, frankly. In the past K has complained about playing in Greensboro in the same pod as UNC for this very reason.

NCAA: here's a tip that would make the tournament far more enjoyable.
Once you know who is in the field of 68, set up a linear programming model with an objective function such that each team plays at a tourney site as far as possible away from their campus. That would take about five mins to set up in MS Excel. The brackets would then populate themselves for optimal neutrality.

That's what it's setup to avoid, long trips in the early rounds.
Used to be set places and not pods in the first 2 rounds.
