Tonight's game is a perfect example of why the Nuggets can't be trusted. Laying -13 at home on a day's rest against a 2-6 Hornets team and not only do they not cover the DD spread, they completely shit the bed, losing by 13, 94-81. Pathetic.
Yeah, NBA can be a mystery sometimes. I get how a team can slip up and not cover that big spread but how they just didn't show up in that spot is hard to understand. No b2b, no lookahead, no injuries, no logical reason at all for them to blow this game like they did.

I think it's just hard to lay DD at any point in time in the NBA.
I know it can be done -- I just haven't even begun to figure out when it is or isn't a good idea.

That's what I mean though: it looked like a perfect opportunity to lay the big number, and it wound up being a disaster. So how you can ever feel comfortable taking any NBA team at -11 or -13 or whatever given games like this is a mystery to me. I know I can't do it.

I'm with you now.
I also very rarely lay double digits. Every time I do it feels like I get backdoored or some other garbage happens after the team I backed led by 20 for most of the game

I had them in an 8 point teaser. I def would not take -13, but i was very surprised they were a no show. Not only lost, they lost pretty big. Just 84 points too.
The second time in a week that my team has dominated for most of the game and then given up a 10+ point lead in the 4Q to lose SU...

I think it's fair to say the Heat were already mentally on the plane to LA by the end of the 3rd quarter. Despite playing a very good game before that, they came out totally flat in the 4th and the Warriors smelled the blood in the water.
It's actually amazing how much David Lee adds to this team as a legit scoring threat with size inside. They've had Monta for a while, who can drive in the paint, but for the most part the Warriors have been plagued by C/Fs that can't command respect inside and defenses could harass them on the perimeter. The Warriors are a much more flexible team now, although they still have missing pieces.

Yo, it's dontbuythehook SK. I got banned a couple months ago for some foolish stuff, but I'm back for now. I knew I was doomed when I saw u took the Mavs -6.5 was one of your only plays today as I sadly was on Detroit. God, what an awful game by them lol. Any leans for tomorrow?

Knicks -4 (-108) x1
Jazz +2 (-108) x1
Great spot for both of these teams to pull out wins. The Sixers are back on the road after four dominant home wins and look invincible right now. They're 8-1 ATS (7-2 SU) and are traveling to New York to play a 2-7 ATS (5-4 SU) team in the Knicks, and yet somehow are still getting +4 here. That's not right. At all...
The Jazz get the Lakers on a B2B, coming from sea-level up to Salt Lake City. Even though the Jazz played last night as well, I like them as a live home dog here. The line is low for a reason here, IMO.

Do you find that Jazz line a bit fishy?
They are playing a lot better than they were last time they faced LA

Line is real fishy. I feel like LAL should at least be at least -3.5 or -4. They were 3.5 favorites on the road to a really bad Kings team without Andrew Bynum, and now they are only 2 point favorites against Utah? Something is wrong here. In that case I may have to take a close look at Utah.

The Jazz/Knicks are the only lines that really stood out to me so far. I think the Heat and Mavs have potential though.

Meh. Hard to cap this clippers/heat game b/c of the addition of paul. If it was the same roster Miami would be an easy play, b/c I can't see them losing two years in a row to the clip joint. Miami adapts well compared to other teams in revenge spots. But Chris paul has done well vs lebron in their season opener when he was a hornet beating Mia as +6.5 home dogs, and billups beat lebron post-trade with denver as a Knick @ Miami. They have some veterans to bring them the W here so there are a lot of factors working for the clippers here. Still, I don't like the clippers defense at all and I think Deandre Jordan will have to come up big, so that's a big minus for LAC since he's a complete doofus scrub. LAC shooting is slightly above average IMO, so they will have to drive to the paint more often and the slashers on their squad aren't smooth enough to get by lebron/wade/anthony/haslem. thoughts?

Dont like you backing the Knicks at all. The line seems ok imo, NY is a big name team with a decent enough record to get line that are a bit inflated. -4 is what they had in their home game vs the Sixers last year (before the trade but after the Sixers started clicking). Opened the season -5 vs Boston. Really dont think the line is giving anything away here.

In truth, the line made me like this game more, but it was already circled on my calendar before the line came out as a divisional game of note, and because of where it falls on the calendar for both teams. Kind of like Dexter's autoplays, but not tracked as such. I stand by the pick.

Did you watch the Clips/Blazers game last night? The Clippers are nowhere near where they need to be to consistently beat upper level teams. They score on a series of individual efforts by their stars and not through cohesive and systematic gameplay. With that lineup they should be halfcourt monsters, but they haven't formed a consistent identity yet.
The Heat are exactly the kind of team that the Clippers want to be, and coming off a terrible loss last night due largely to mentally quitting in the 4Q instead of closing out the game, I would expect Miami to play the full 48 tonight and really press LA. Not sure if I'll play it, but I think the Heat win this game.

I'm very cautious regarding the Nuggets and DD spreads. I only really like backing them on big numbers when they have someone coming to town on a B2B. But it does look like a pretty huge mismatch.

Thing that concerns me about Utah is Jefferson and Millsap really struggle with the length of Gasol and Bynum. Jazz are going to need some production from their backcourt of Harris and Hayward. Lamar Odom was a Jazz killer. Him not being in LA anymore is a definite positive for Utah in this matchup.
GL tonight, SK.

ur gunna get bradleysnyder'ed sk, sorry clip joint rolls
Brutal... Jazz lose by a point, Miami go 20/34 at the FT line and straight up miss several easy layups, going over 10 minutes at one point without scoring from the field... Even the Knicks led by 17 and then insisted on making it interesting at the end.

Nothing I like on the card tomorrow. I would like the Grizz, but I can't back them without Randolph until they learn to manage Gasol's minutes better. He's getting overworked badly, playing 40+ minutes every night.

American holidays = early games... I missed most of the games on today's card that I liked.
1/16:
Thunder -2 (-114) x1
Lakers ML (-161) x2
The line in the OKC-BOS game is just as messed up as the ORL-NYK game was. I can see Boston coming to play tonight, but the disparity between these two teams is significant, IMO. It should be a hard fought game in which the Thunder take command. Rajon Rondo is going to be the key for Boston, and a big game for him is not unlikely, but the Thunder's strong perimeter D is going to be the difference, along with a strong game from Durant.
The Lakers tonight fall into a great spot to get revenge on the team that thoroughly embarrassed them last year. The Lakers new system under Mike Brown matches up well against the Mavs, and in particular, the lack of Tyson Chandler in the middle and the increased shooting rate for Kobe will make this a tough game. You have to believe that of all the games this season, this is one of the most important ones circled on the Lakers calendar. Kobe & Bynum in particular will be the difference makers. Dallas, being who they are, will make this a tough game, but the Lakers win this game.
