Portland Trail Blazers vs. Toronto Raptors // Feb 26
Introducing the lineups
The Portland Trail Blazers (24-33) cross the conference and take on the Toronto Raptors (34-24). The Trail Blazers look to catapult themselves into the playoffs, while the Raptors hope their new and improved squad officially makes them a contender in the Eastern Conference.
Off the beaten trail
The Trail Blazers are a game and a half back from the Denver Nuggets for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They are with a group of teams that are battling for the final spot, but they will have to play a lot better coming out of the All-Star break. They are 4-6 in their last 10 games and their play on the road has been a problem all year. They are 10-20 on the road this season.
Portland’s offence is 9th in the league with 107.4 points per game and they rely mostly on Damian Lillard. He leads the team in both points and assists. The Trail Blazers will have to tighten up their defensive game tonight against the high-scoring Raptors. It won’t be an easy task for a team that is 26th in the league, giving up an average of 110 points per game.
New-look Raps
The Raptors are without Kyle Lowry who is still out with a wrist injury, but their deadline acquisitions made an impact in their first game with the team. Serge Ibaka had 15 points with seven rebounds in the Raptors’ win against the Orlando Magic, and P.J. Tucker had 9 points with 10 rebounds.
The Raptors fell off a bit before the break and now find themselves in fourth place in the East. They are 6.5 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers but the Boston Celtics (3 gb) and Washington Wizards (1 gb) are well within reach. The Raptors are 5-5 in their last 10 but have found a rhythm at home all season. They are 20-10 in Toronto this year and are 4-1 in their last five home games. The additions of Ibaka and Tucker will only add to the Raptors’ impressive offence that os 5th in the league in scoring with 108.4 points per game.
The Final Breakdown
The Raptors will likely squeak out the W at home, but laying 5.5 points against a team against which they are 1-6 ATS at home seems like a lot, especially without Lowry in the lineup.
