    paper betting
I would like to "paper" bet for awhile to get the hang of betting on horses. Does anyone know of where I could access past information on horses past performance without having to pay exhorbiant prices for horse racing stat racing cards, like perhaps Trackmaster offers? I just want to practice before betting "real" money.

    Thanks!

i started betting on horses a year ago. pp's only mean so much. however horses that WIN theyre most recent race will usually cash a PLACE or SHOW ticket in theyre next race. i have had some success finding random long-shots by betting on a post # at an individual track that hasnt come in WIN, PLACE or SHOW in a couple days or betting on a jockey that is getting 6 or more rides in a day with a WIN/PLACE/SHOW record of 30% or greater(both would be progressions). if you want to handicap horses you need to see the odds as they are moving. when a fav gets moved down it is a bad sign, usually will go PLACE or SHOW(or in the case of Union Rags @ Florida Derby opened 6/5 clear fav closed 1/9 and finished 4th). watch how often the 1/1A will cash. what state you in? track nearby or OTB?

I live in the UK right now but am trying to learn a system and want to "practice" the rules before committing real money. I'd rather not commit money to downloading stats history from previous races, but don't think there is anywhere giving that info for free.

        Hi,

I live in England and I use fullcardreports - I have used this guys sheets for over 10 years and the figures
        do hold up.

The amount of money you pay for a 12-month service is brilliant - when you access all the various reports
for all tracks in America and Canada.

Fullcardreports also breaks down plays via best bets, spot plays and Value Odds=Longshots

It is worth getting your head in the figures for 1 or 2 months and see the pattern that happens with
certain angles that fullcardreports highlights - plus you can usually go back on the reports sometimes 2 weeks back.

Seriously, if you want a good crack at American racing - for the amount of money you pay and the
amount of information you receive - fullcardreports is really good value for money.

When I email the guy - he responds as well.

I have to state - I have no connection whatsoever with the company - just a happy customer for over
        10 years.

Try it and tell me I am wrong

By using the figures I look at various angles and basically after 10 years - I can safely state that if
you back an angle around the favourites or you just back favourites in every race - these are the average strike rates for you: -

        WIN - 28% strike rate
        PLACE - 48% sr
        SHOW - 63% sr

So, in English bookie terms - it means if you back every horse at 26/10 - you would break even !

So, one angle is to bet any horse you like over 27/10 - i.e. a shade over 5/2 - as the stats state -
you will make a small profit.

Also, after 10 years of playing Yankee horses - 1 free rule/angle - odds-on shots during Monday to Thursday racing - is the quickest way to the poor house !

I believe twinspires offers free pp's but the catch is you have to bet on that card to get it for free. So you could just put a $2 show bet on a favorite and it should work out ok.
