BTW my brothers intensive chemo went better than could have been hoped. His overall prognosis long term is sketchy still, but short medium term looking way more positive than it was when i mentioned him before the last race

Glad to hear. Many prior family issues here as well. Keep positive.

    All my best!!

Opened at 5/1 on futures markets. I'm tempted to bet bigger than I normally would this time.

The Widden Stakes is an Australian Turf Club Group 3 Thoroughbred horse race, for two-year-old fillies, held with set weights with penalties conditions, over a distance of 1100 metres at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney, Australia in February.[1] Total prize money for the race is A$160,000.

        [/COLOR]
Caldera returned to the work tab at Oaklawn Park on Sunday morning, covering four furlongs in :50 flat.(19/46) Your colt has continued in great order since his maiden score, and the Lukas barn remains very pleased. As “The Coach” reported in his post-race video, the plan is to allow him to prove himself against stakes company in one of the upcoming Derby preps. He is already nominated to the Feb. 15 G2 Risen Star at Fair Grounds, and he will be nominated to the Feb. 22 G2 Rebel S. as well.
We will remain in communication with Mr. Lukas as Caldera's works intensify in the coming weeks and allow him to tell us where he believes he has his best shot to earn his first Derby points.

Sweet Voyage hasn’t missed a beat since her Turfway debut according to trainer Jeff Hiles and everything remains on track for her next start on February 12th at Turfway Park. We expect to see her return to the work tab in the next few days and will be back with more then.

Opti, first things first.. Absolutely fantastic news on you brother. Be sure he knows he has a rooting fan base back here in the states.

After hearing him speak, I like him even more. Humble, reserved, confident. All that stuff he said is code for she is on schedule to run better than last time. And while the others might be as well, what more can you ask than that going into the race. He is my kind of trainer it sounds like.

GL and all the best in the race and health of your brother.

                Here's an interesting one

Turfway R5 #12 8-1 Askari. OFF 517. Just came out of my stable. I had him flagged as "can't wait for next". Needless to say he owes me money.

Ran his first 3 in the Pletcher barn. First 2 on the turf at MON, then an off the turf at SAR. Slow, but looks like he can run forever. Shows up today GELDED since last and new barn Christopher Davis??

Anyone has a moment to look would appreciate a comment.

                  Best,
obviously a serious setback to be off that long and a mid level track makes sense to ease the level of competition .. trainer has solid numbers

you know he can run fresh

broke his maiden on the turf and tapit's primarily a dirt site (one of the premier ones) would lead me to believe he might take to the tapeta surface there

still owned by the breeders and he's not up for sale so connections feel he still has some ability..

                    Best,
As you said first time gelding. The Trainer does well with horses off a long layoff and has speed figures to compete with the group.. so yeah worth a shot!

I will say Turfway Park is a tough track for me to handicap.....

I'm not too sure, He has a decent record with "first time starters w/new trainer 7 wins 2 seconds and 4 shows from 28 starts...

I don't mean to be MIA. Crazy day yesterday and that plane crash last evening involved people flying in to see one of the Senators my son works for. Crazy night but all good and will get caught up throughout the day. Back in a bit.

                                    Best,
A couple of notes here. The gelding makes perfect sense. That now 5 year old would have gained so much weight as a colt/horse as a 4 and 5 yr. old, that it would have put his injury, whatever it was in harms way big time. Smart move IMO.

Owner retains the horse so they did and still do feel there is some potential there. The trainer had decent numbers and if he is known to Todd and the owners, that is good enough for me. Was he worth a small play? yeah, probably. Is he worth continuing to follow? Absolutely ! He will most likely win within his next two starts.
Hang on to him in the stable Madison and let's follow him for the next two races.

If he was not legit he would not have the horse. If ownership had changed, you never know but it did not change so you can bet he is legit or Todd/ owner, whoever made that decision, would not have called him.

Race 2 No reason to think forward move won't win or be right there IMO.

Just call me Capt. Obvious . Lol. he is 1-5

This one will win down there but might be pointing to go longer? Just don't know. Trainer has had very little success off time so keep an eye out today and see if the effort is buildable for the next time out . That is what I see.

Madison, please do keep this horse in your stable and let us know when he runs back. I just saw the replay and that effort was actually full of promise with what went on that was difficult to see.

If you watch it again, watch for these things:

                                                    1. The horse was unprepared for the start as was the rider. The starter gave them no time to get set. That was not cool at all. I do understand with a 12 horse field but that was ridiculous.

                                                    2. The rider lost his inside iron when it hit the gate coming out. Took him a few strides to get it back. That, just like with Deterministic last year prompted the horse to react by running off into and around the first turn and early down the backside into a blistering early pace. A total waste of energy.

He was 6 wide all the way around the 1st turn and I am being generous.

Finally settles some, but not enough to be pleased with, half way down then backside and still has enough to try and finish. By now the race is starting to go really slow. The last 1/4 mile in 27 and change shows that. So the making up of ground which ended when this horse became out of gas about the 1/4 pole was totally acceptable IMO for his 1st race back and what had happened up to that point.
He also never switched leads through the lane which showed you that he was so concerned with tired that he forgot. The horse had no concentration whatsoever that last 1/4 mile. Yet, when galloping out, he does not stop early, he actually gallops out very decently.

IMO,. this race is a hidden gem. This is the kind of race I stuck around for the last race for all those years ago. If I picked this race apart horse by horse, there might be 3-4 horses in here that would be very eligible to be claimed due to the fast early time, the slow late time, and all the incidentals that occurred. I lived for these types of races back then.

PLEASE keep us posted on this horse !

If you are the type of handicapper that watches every race everyday at a track and bets selectively, this race is a dream come true.

The chart comment was: "Askari never menaced throughout."

It should have said, "was always menaced by something throughout".

They even threw the odds up on the upper left corner of the screen and blocked most from seeing this guy through the late stretch. Lol.

Watching, and possibly betting this horse in his next two starts is a must IMO.

Seize the Grey Broodmare Band members Community Adjusted and her Quality Road filly foal have completed their round pen phase and ventured for the first time today into a small paddock, where the foal was able to stretch her legs and do some running. They will remain in this paddock until they are ready to be around other mares and foals, at which time they will be relocated to a larger paddock and paired up.
Both mare and foal have handled the foaling process well and come out of it in good order. The farm estimates that Community Adjusted should be ready to be bred back to Seize the Grey about a month from her prior foaling date, around the third week in February.https://cdnb-media.myracehorse.com/b...8270888242.mp4

So those were the genuine best 2yo fillies in the country right now. Brother has been trying to keep his expectations under control but genuinely thought she might be the best one this year. He was really disappointed. Obviously a handy horse and could win her keep easily if placed in the right races. But he really felt let down by that run :\

The baby is just goofing around . A little windy and chilly so feeling really good. Mom is calmly checking things out . Mom eats some grass and smells around while Jr. is looking to nurse. Very cool. When they come back, mom gets excited. Probably time for a bucket of oats and she knows it. Jr. is just hangin out being Jr.

Your rider needed to coax and somewhat urge her to be where she was early and mid race. The eventual winner was there in hand and was indeed best. But the other speed horse was in hand as well early while your horse needed to be coaxed to keep, up. That horse seemed to fall apart late but your horse kept running after being urged pretty much throughout . Urged but not full asked. Guess what I am saying is, without knowing the blood lines or expectations, your horse along with the winner seemed to stay well throughout the race. Maybe a little longer race will serve your brothers horse very well. No doubt he knows all this but just thought I would mention it to you. I think her future is bright Opti.

Hope she came out of the race in good order. Please keep us posted. Either way, she is a NICE filly.
