#9698I thought I would post that Rich Dauer who was the 2nd baseman for the Balt. Orioles in the late 70's and early 80's passed away it was announced on Monday. He was 72. He won a world series ring in 1983 with the O's as their 2nd baseman and was with the Astros as the 1st base coach in 2017.
I never got to know Rich well, but we spent a couple of years sitting next to each other at Timonium during the summer meets. Pretty sure I posted about that in here. I know I have somewhere in SBR.
Rich was a super friendly guy. Really welcoming to talk to. He was a quiet kind of guy but when you got to know him a bit, he loosened up and was quite a character. Funny, smart, and he loved going to the track and watching the races for about half the day card before he had to leave for the ballfield for home games.
It's funny, but years, decades removed from the game, some memories and recollections still make me smile and remind me of how much fun it was and how lucky I was to get a chance to talk to all the different people I was so blessed to be able to.
Rich Dauer would be near the top of any list in my mind.
Heck of a guy. Rest in Peace Rich.Comment -

Back in the 80's you could go to MIA/WPB etc , sit behind the dugout, have a beer and watch a game for $6??
I know I keep reverting to the old days but they were great times.Comment -

#9704She looks alive in this race. Don't let the poor trainers stats fool you. This guy knows what he is doing with babies. I would expect this horse to run well and be prominent early.
On a side note, did you see the 2nd time starter #3 that went off 120.00-1 first time out and finished 3rd. Stepping up off that but you don't see that very often.
good call

This horse is certainly nice Madison. My worry would be that the horse is a closer and at the mercy of the early pace. In this race, there is only one speed that I see and that horse is pretty solid. If they go slower than 48 and change and a slow 3/4 time, your horse will have to overcome that which is asking a lot at a probable short price.
That would be my reservation. Maybe don’t bet a lot but bet some to win and play a straight exacta with the only speed Tank #6 on top only and yours second??
That’s my take.

I feel the same way.... although not as heavily involved as you..... it was always interesting when I was helping my cousin out... the interesting people I got to meet......
This reminded me of " Toby Sheets" Asumussen's NY assistant trainer who died under"unusual circumstances" in Greece in June.
I knew him when he was just basically starting out ... hustling business as an exercise rider at the horse sales... Smart witty sarcastic as all get out.... But caring and compassionate as well. You could see he had a natural ability around the horses. We had some fun times at the racetrack and sales..... oh good grief.... smiling as I type....Comment -

#9713Sweet Voyage Race Overview

Sweet Voyage is set to start in the fourth race on Feb. 12 at Turfway Park. She’ll break from the two post in a field of nine runners. Trainer Jeff Hiles has entrusted the talents of veteran Corey Lanerie to ride. Post time is 7:25 p.m. ET.
Your daughter of Candy Ride will seek a bit of class relief here against $30,000 maiden claiming company while also stretching out around two turns for the first time in her career, an adjustment that she should appreciated given her 395 Tomlinson rating for the distance. She will be looking to rebound following what was a disappointing effort in her first run in the Bluegrass State, when she was a well beaten eighth place, but she can be competitive against thins group should she be able to improve off of her figures posted on the west coast. Best of luck to all owners.
More on the competition (Click here for past performances):
#1 Fashion Affirmed: Was third in the same condition last time out at odds of 28-1, good for a 57 Beyer figure. In her three starts prior to her most recent she was well beaten against maiden special weight company at Turfway, Churchill Downs and Horseshoe Indianapolis.
#3 Lunar Seas: Has been well beaten in her two career starts, which both came against maiden special weight company. She boasts a career high Beyer of 33, but will look to improve on that with the drop in class. Needs major improvement to be competitive.
#4 Perfect Girl: Returns to the races for the first time since last October while also debuting for a new barn. Has run respectable figures against mostly $40,000 maiden claiming company in New York. Certainly gets some class relief with the circuit change and could be a threat if she takes to the tapeta surface, on which she is untested.
#5 American Honey: Another coming off a layoff since the fall, she put forth a decent second place effort at Belterra Park two starts back before being a well beaten fourth at the $50,000 maiden claiming level at Churchill Downs. The barn has been hot at the meet, winning at 29%, however this filly will have to improve a touch to be competitive in here.
#6 Argentinidad: Drops in against maiden claiming company following nine starts in the special weight ranks. Has run some respectable figures in those races that could put her in contention. It is worth noting that the two worst races of her career (20 and 48 Beyer figures) both came over the tapeta surface at Turfway Park.
#7 I Am the Sauce: Was beaten just under seven lengths in her last start, which came in the special weight ranks and was her first off of a layoff. Comes in here second off the bench and gets some class relief as she runs against maiden claiming company for the first time in her career. Certainly one to watch in here.
#8 Vanished: Had some trouble in her last start and came running to finish fourth beaten just over two lengths. Some of her best past races have come around two turns, and she will get that as she stretches out in distance in this race second off of a layoff.
#9 Need a Bit of Luck: Had a solid debut and second start back in early 2024 before falling off form. Comes into this spot off of a layoff. As a daughter of Arrogate, you would have to think she will appreciate the added distance. However, talent and fitness certainly raise questions.

GL.He did not catch him several races back with a slower pace which is understandable but did not catch him with a quicker pace either. It was not lightning fast but today should be controlled early by Tank. I don't know how much speed there was in those other two racers on paper going in. So, I don't know who wins but depending on the price maybe play 6,7,8 bucks to win and a straight Tank on top for 4,3,2 bucks exacta?? Just a guess but it makes sense.

Others in here have not shown what we would anticipate from these two so a decent chance they run 1-2. I would give an edge to the Army Mule as Mott can certainly win with a firster but he rarely has them all cranked up form the 1st race.
Good stuff JBEX.Comment -

#9724Wow. And hooks a Into Mischief firster of Mott's. Very interesting race. I kind of wondered about 5 1/2 furlongs but this one is out of a The Factor mare so I assume that one was built for speed.

#9726going to stick to horses ..the army mule tomorrow will be a short price and I like one today that at the ml (9-2) with a WP would be about a +300 return..a place would be a small profit and forward to tomorrow..not top 2 no bet tomorrow which is no big deal as it'll probably be
short odds anyway

#9730will never do this again ..suggest a 2 day parlay..if I'm not playing not the right thing to do and I don't want to come off as arrogant like how can you not play my pick .. not to mention if you do these following through the next day isn't easy and often times not smart if part 2 is an underlay..lesson learned and sorry if I came across that way
