Horse Racing questions and answers -
Sportsbook Review Forum
https://cdnb-media.myracehorse.com/b...9869864641.mp4 Caldera worked extremely well, per usual, this morning at Churchill Downs. Under Jaime Torres, and inside of stablemate Bon Temps—who’s a solid work horse in his own right—Caldera cruised along effortlessly through a sharp five furlongs in :59.40.(1/11) As you’ll see, he was always going much easier than his mate and crossed the wire about two lengths clear with zero encouragement. He still wasn’t asked for anything on the gallop out, but continued on well past the wire.
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas is considering two possible maiden special weights at Churchill Downs for Caldera’s unveiling: a five-furlong race on Nov. 14, or a six-furlong one on Nov. 16. The latter is more likely as of now and seems to make more sense distance wise.
I loved the way he worked inside the other horse.
We’ve got a change of plans for Caldera. While trainer D. Wayne Lukas told us this morning after the colt’s breeze that he planned to skip the seven-furlong spot in the condition book that was drawing today for Nov. 1, he was not aware at the time that there was also a six-furlong option on the overnight being offered as an extra. The distance of the book race was the main reason for bypassing that one, but Caldera seems plenty ready as far as fitness and preparedness goes, so The Coach went ahead and entered Caldera in the six-furlong extra race once he became aware of it.
Caldera will be the #6 among a field of 12 in next Friday’s fifth race at Churchill Downs, a maiden special weight carrying a $120K purse. Post time is 3:14 p.m. ET. We’ll follow up with more on the field this weekend or early next week.
Perfect work. And I will add that the invention of the " extra" race, which did not exist until the 80's and the horse shortage with everyone running in the summer and winter, was always something I disliked. And while it worked out this time, it seemed that every time I worked my horse hard for a race six seven days later, an extra was up for two day ahead that afternoon. Grrr.
That irritated me. But LOLOL, everything but exactly what I wanted in the morning did when it came to training up to a race.
On a side note, I am noticing a lot of typos lately in my posts. No, I did not have a stroke. My really old ball mouse died and I got a wireless mouse and a keyboard that is slightly smaller. Every time I go to hit an A, I also hit the caps lock and have to delete and retype 2-3 sentences when I look up and see I have done it again.
Or, I hit the next letter over. Good lord, I suck! Hahaha.
I could have taken typing in Jr. high school but went with print shop and wood shop instead. Learned how to set type for a newspaper and made an ash tray out of wood. Hmmm. Think about that for a minute. What an idiot!
Heading out soon to see some great friends of mine where we will sit and pick and eat crabs all day. We do it this time every year and have for quite A WHILE. Lol. See what I mean about the caps lock.
I have known these guys my whole life. Played with them and against them in sports when we were kids. Then hung with them and even worked at one of their dads gas station when we were teenagers. We had a few horses together as well back in the day and get together for a big race now and then as I have talked about before. We had so much fun and have so many memories we rehash every year. It never gets old and I look forward to this day every time it comes around.
We all have our close friends I guess but for me, each year seems more precious than the last. I guess it's all part of the aging process and if so, it is a part I really like. We will eat crabs all day and laugh as well. It doesn't really get much better than that.

Interesting post as we are in similar life paths. My only issue is I have several friends who their only focus is the past. Was it Springsteen or Seger song? I have a difficult time with this as while I do cherish the past and few regrets, for me focusing on the future is healthier. Grandchildren, Will never last in a nursing home, etc. Maybe one of you will get me a decent winner.

wasn't aware of the baq and santa anita runners but saw the kee..ran a huge debut race and lost by about a neck at 30-1..I like to see prices with a non -elite sire..shows there might be something with the sire that upgrades runner..I am convinced from what I've seen that LM is a better sire than what they're asking for him which is $40k

without seeing the race think this horse would attract a better jock with his race record..by far the worst turf rider in that field
.
also a LM came in 2nd in an earlier alw race at baq
.

headline numbers
two favorites going easy on the front end ..HN starts going for them past the 6f mark but of course they have plenty left ..my feel is making the first move in that situation is the worst thing..I say this because the other 2 closed well and all finished within 2 lengths of the winner
I feel this race is a bit of an aberration .. if HN gets a legit pace to sit behind I think she's capable of a very good effort

interestingly enough has the same dam sire as DM but cost over half a million less

When the track uses a second finish line does that bother any of you? When it is moved, every pole is wrong throughout the race. Do any of you notice that or ever get confused by it, even for a second?
It certainly affects the riders every now and then.
I think where I am going is; is this a problem for jockey's to deal with only or should management take the time to make sure all the pools are correct for each distance. Not that hard a fix at all IMO but more on that later.
Thanks
It's annyoing to me. Polls should be correct for each distance. What's your suggesstion for a fix, str? If you already posted about, let me know. Thanks!

Not sure about which singer wrote that but I was a huge Seger fan back in the day. Named a horse Still The Same. She won a few races. Also named one Silver Bullet Band. He won as well. Saw him several times when he was in town. Same with Springsteen. Late 70's and early 80's was a trip.
I'm the same way. Grandkids, kids, I always thought about today not back in the day. Thinking way back is always cleaned up in our minds. Only the highlights.
Springsteen wrote Glory Days. Kind of makes fun of them and that is how I look at them as well. Glad they happened. More glad to deal with today.
No nursing home for me either. Let's try and find you that winner Madison.

More often than not, it is hard to be the one that forces the race. It is typically costly. Makes for a tough setup. And yes, typically will run an improved effort next out.
Always hated having my horse do that but it goes with the territory sometimes. As long as it was not a rider mistake, you hate it but it is inevitable that it will happen now and then.

Glory Days my friend. BOL today. Hoping we'll do a BC thread.
Talking about walking the edge ... I took the NYJ in my Survivor today. I have decent odds for the $$ avail. NE knocked me out last year in similar position.

Normally I would be thinking the horse will run an improved race. Might still, but it does get my attention that the rider hops on a firster instead of staying on this one. Maybe take a close look at that firster especially if it is getting a lot of play at the windows.
Sometimes it's just a matter of the other trainer had the call on that rider from a month ago and is tied up but I would watch that and try and make more sense out of it before I would think of just blindly playing our 2nd time starter.

with banking silver it bothers me a little (not a lot) that saez is switching (i think you mean 2nd time starter that saez is riding).. I feel if brad cox offers you a mount it's tough to turn down for future considerations to ride for him..looks like that one might be the lone speed and real expensive auction purchase for a cheap sire..brad was tearing it up at the meet prior to going to kee
since we're discussing the race my pick is mcpeek's
bottomless mimosa (#6 @ 15-1)
..I like the slow fade out of a fast race in his debut and not a pedigree slouch either ..completely bred to be a sprinter..should offer value here
look forward to watching this one

Straight No Chaser Breeze Report Straight No Chaser turned in a strong final work at Santa Anita this morning ahead of next Saturday's G1 Breeders' Cup Sprint. Your son of Speightster breezed under his usual exercise rider and assistant trainer Juan Landeros. They were clocked in a sharp :47.20 (2/55).
