Rags in Belmont was incredible I had her hammered she had worst start possible but just kept grinding and freaking Curlin was not quitting and she wore him down. That was incredible

same, almost $9 I think

and we were fresh

side note: eight belles is horse I don’t want anyone to forget

ran 2nd in Derby and literally died on course running her heart out vs the boys

hope nothing else was involved

My all time favorite horse is Holy Bull.

I was in the grandstand at Belmont in '94 to watch him in the Woodward Stakes. ( I almost went to see him in the Haskell down the Jersey Shore but passed, I wish I didn't)
Watch what he does in the final two furlongs.
He made Go for Gin look like a maiden.
Holy Bull and Mike Smith was a marriage made in heaven.
First horse that ever brought tears to my eyes.

I was born and raised in Jersey (been in Ct. for years now though)
Any-hoo I was raised in Cranford NJ a 40 minute straight shot down the Garden State Parkway to Monmouth Park.
Used to go about once a week in the summer, if I got out of there with anything left in my wallet we would drive another 40 minutes straight down to Harrahs in Atlantic City for a night of card playing.
Best summers of my life.

One of my favorite (infamous) Monmouth moments was when I bet some long shot in a dopey allowence race.
I forget the name of the horse but I'll never forget Joe "the crook" Rocco was the jock.
My horse was 12 to 1 or 14 to 1 something like that, had a six length lead down the stretch with clear sailing and for reasons unkown Rocco started to choke the shit out of my pony. Biggest fix job I ever saw, he finished fourth in a race where he clearly would have won by eight lengths.
So I'm standing right at the rail, Rocco comes about 10 feet or so near where I was standing on the other side and I give him everything in the book, shit like "Rocco you should be put in prison after a ride like that".....
He heard me, the little midget shot me a look back as if to say "You want a piece of me"....
Too funny.

Yeah LK I love the bigger races especially grade 3 stakes races and higher.
I don't have time to break down claimers and allowances any more.

I have plenty of other memmories, one of my other all time favorites was Cat Thief.
Made about 2 grand on him in the Breeder's Cup here. The great Pat Day up.
Watch down the stretch when the track announcer says "And Cat Thief clawing his way to the lead...."
