I feel that Brodeur is past his prime. As one of the league's all-time greatest goaltenders, expectations are always high for him. Take for example, tonight's line against the Islanders, the Devils were a -200 ML favourite. And against one of the worst offensive teams in the league, you'd expect a goalie of Brodeur's caliber to really shine. However, this was not the case tonight. Brodeur's been struggling all season long.

I think a drop in his performance really showed during the Winter Olympics. Coming into the Olympics, he was Canada's go-to goalie, while Luongo and Fleury sat on the bench. After a sloppy performance against the United States, Team Canada made the switch and gave Luongo the start from then on. I saw this as a big hit to Brodeur's ego, and at the age of 38, I'm sure he felt that way too.

Agreed-his skill went downhill super fast though. I guess goalies are one of the most sensitive to confidence, etc so if he started losing it on the world stage of course he'll continue downhill. Stick this year and take a thank you job with NJ.

Just seems to be fighting the puck in way too many starts this season. Like someone else mentioned though, his defense isn't helping him too much at all. I don't expect the Devils to make the playoffs, obviously, but do expect them to somewhat turn things around as they head into the second part of the season.

The Devils need a real miracle to make the playoffs this year. Considering the average eighth-seed in the playoffs has accumulated about 90 points in the regular season, the odds of New Jersey making the playoffs is marginal, at best. Low on morale, the Devils are the textbook definition of a bad hockey team. They can't play defense because they don't have any good defencemen. With all due respect, I actually think Brodeur would be much better with some capable defencemen in front of him.

Let's not forget Jersey has been missing their best player for 97% of the season.
