    NHL Puck line -0.5
for the last 4 days i have been betting Favs ( i take a team that is say -150 to -200 ml and get them at -105 to -150 at puck line of -0.5)

my record so far is 8-3 69%... i cant find any data on this.. anyone know long term trends?

    also what about trying -1.5?

I like -0.5 a lot, the only problem is if other team score 1st then your in trouble.

I do the regulation only plays on a game by game basis. I look at past games between the two teams, how they have been doing lately, ect. Like a game between Phoenix and the Blues last night. I picked the Coyotes to win on the ML just because these two teams play eachother tough and I felt they are very closely matched teams. The end result was 5-3 because of an empty netter.

It really just depends on the match up for me. But the line also plays into it as well. If the ML for the team I think will win is +120. I wont get greedy most of the time and go for the regulation only. I'll stick with the ML. If I see a favorite that is -130 for example and I think they are a great pick to win than I will go for the regulation only play which may be a +110.

The lines of 1.5 I don't touch. It's hard enough to predict games in the NHL, I just don't like flirting with this.

More or less. There are also MLs that apply to regulation time only. Using the -0.5 RT lines have good value, but as someone mentioned above, you should apply it on a game-by-game basis. For example, you don't really want to use this in a tight, low-scoring game because there's a good chance that it goes to OT.

The -0.5 RT line comes in handy when you're unsure of a team's ability to win in OT/SO. I learned this last season to prove a point to a buddy of mine that kept taking the San Jose Sharks on the ML, even when they were -200 (which they often were). And he was actually losing money in the long run. Why? For whatever reasons, the Sharks were an awful OT/SO team. I don't have the stats with me right now, but I crunched the numbers last season for the Nabokov (the Shark's former goalie) and I was surprised at how bad he was in OT/SO.

Simply put, the Sharks did not deserve to be a -200 ML favourite. When it comes to OT/SO it's more or less a coin flip. So then you ask yourself: if it goes to overtime, why am I laying -200 on a team when it's a coin flip situation? That's why I go by the motto: if they can't win in regulation time, it's not worth the risk for overtime.
