So I'm not much of a hockey fan but I wanted to place a wager tonight on some games just for fun. 100 dollar parlay to win 221 on Kings to win out right and Sharks -1 1/2. Well Anyways Kings win and the Sharks go into a shootout. The Sharks outscore the Islanders by 2 goals to 0 in the shootout yet they are only credited ONE overall goal. I mean that just seems stupid to me. My question is why is it even like that?

#3Shootout counts as 1 goal added to the final score regardless if it's a 2-0 SO winner or 2-1. Not sure why you would think otherwise, it's been this way for hockey since the beginning of the shootout, even in international competition this is how it's calculated. It makes sense to me.Comment -

#4No I understand the shootout process but why is the final score 2-1 rather than 3-1? They scored 2 goals in the shootout.Comment -

#6Whoever wins the shootout, gets credited with the extra point, thus winning the game.
It would skew stats way too much if you counted shootout goals as real goals, both for players, and for teams.Comment
