    2009/10 NHL Futures
Anyone taking any futures at this stage for 2009/10?

Who are we rating as value at the moment?

I've had a couple of good years with futures but this year looks tougher than the last 2.

I put $100 on St Louis Blues to win the Stanley Cup at 40/1 odds. I like the line of TJ Oshie, Pat Berglund, and David Perron a lot. Paul Kariya is feeling his best in years and defenseman Erik Johnson is back from injury. Blues are a big physical team who can skate, and if Mason provides good goaltending, they can wear down teams in a 7 game series.

st-louis did great things last year despite injuries to multiple players <especially e.johnson for the year >. it will be interesting to see what they can do with a full squad. a team that is double digits odds and will be shrinking as the season progresses is vancouver. they got a couple of new faces in the lineup that include samuellson from detroit as well as m.scneider, guys who have won with detroit , c.ehrcroft and a guy who left guaranted money back home and singned a two way contract in the NHL is rookie foward sherapov. was one of canucks top point guys in preseason and should start the season playing with sedin brothers.

I'm a Blues fan, but I'm tempted to take Detroit to win the division. I don't see anyone threatening them too much, minus the Blackhawks. But on the flipside, I'm probably going to stop $20 on the Blues to go to the Conf. Finals.

I must preface my picks: I am a Vancouverite and die-hard Canucks fan. However this is the most complete Canucks team ever on paper heading into the season. The Canucks

Vancouver 13-1 (This number will continue to shrink.) You can probably get higher odds elsewhere as 13-1 is on a site that advertises heavily over the air in BC and elsewhere in Canada.

Also look at Vancouver 7.5-1 to win the West and 1.25-1 to win the Northwest Division. The Canucks provide the best payout among Division favourites.
I have watched a ton of Northwest division hockey and Calgary is overrated. They made the splash with Jay-Bow and the media coverage hype of their big-3 Phaneuf, Regehr, and Bow on D has drowned out discussion of their flaws. Calgary has a lack of scoring up front. Last year they were not an offensive powerhouse and they lostCamalleri's production. They have not replacedCamalleri and Olli Jokinen is not a clutch player.

I agree about the Flames. The Nucks should clean up in the division beating up on Colorado Edmonton Calgary and Minnesota.
