Marlins starting pitcher Jose Fernandez was outstanding during an extended spring start Monday.
The right-hander, who is coming off Tommy John surgery last year, struck out seven in three innings, according to The Miami Herald. He didn't allow a hit and walked just one, while sitting between 94-97 mph on the radar gun with his fastball.
He ended his extended spring start Monday with six straight strikeouts.
The 2013 NL Rookie of the Year said he will begin a rehab assignment with Class A Jupiter on Saturday.

Staying on the topic of rehab starts - Justin Verlander's didn't go nearly as well...

Verlander gave up 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings against Indianapolis (Pittsburgh's AAA squad)

Detroit Tigers star Justin Verlander struggled in his first rehabilitation start as he recovers from a triceps injury, giving up three runs in 2 2/3 innings for Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

OTD: Lou Gehrig replaces Wally Pipp

On June 2, 1925, Wally Pipp had a headache and popped a couple of Aspirin, so Lou Gehrig stepped in at first -- and "The Iron Horse" would not miss a game for the next 2,128 games. Said Wally Pipp: "I took the two most expensive Aspirin in history."

Gallo was suppose to only be up two weeks and then go to Round Rock....hmmm could be an interesting situation.

Then again, John Daniels said at the beginning of the season there was NO chance of Gallo playing at the major league level this year.

Will Seattle finally make the change here? Smith the next guy?

Fernando Rodney blew the save, letting the Yankees score once in the ninth inning as the Mariners went on to lose in 11 innings on Tuesday.

Rodney issued a leadoff walk, but then got two quick outs and it seemed like he would find his way out of trouble. The Yankees cobbled together a single followed by a Stephen Drew double to tie the game. Somehow, it's only Rodney's third blown save. He's pitched very poorly this year, currently holding a 6.85 ERA with a 20/12 K/BB ratio in 22 1/3 innings. The Mariners have to be running thin on patience with Rodney. If a change is made, Carson Smith would likely move into the closer's role. Fantasy owners in need of saves may want to stash him just in case.

Eduardo Rodriguez tossed another gem today, this kid looks ready to stay. He might be the Red Sox ace at this point. He pitched 7 innings, 2 hits, 7 Strike outs (and 2 walks in the 7th inning).

A gem from a Houston rookie.

Lance McCullers was terrific on Wednesday, holding the Orioles to one run over nine innings in a complete game win.

The young right-hander scattered four hits while walking none and striking out 11. The lone run came in on a Delmon Young single in the fourth inning. McCullers allowed a two-out single to Adam Jones in the ninth inning, prompting a visit from the dugout, but manager A.J. Hinch decided to let him stay in. On his 107th pitch, McCullers struck out Chris Davis to end the game. The rookie, over four starts, has a 1.88 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP and a 29/6 K/BB ratio in 24 innings. He'll look for a repeat performance next week in Chicago against the White Sox.
