    Football Quickhits...Did You Know
    Just for fun.....DID YOU KNOW?

    * Former Florida coach Ron Zook went 23-14 in three seasons in Gainsville.
    * Alabama has won 22 Southeastern Conference championships.
    * During Bobby Bowdens final season, there were between 10,000 and 20,000 empty seats at Doak Campbell Stadium on more than one ocasion.
    * Oklahoma went a combined 8-16 in the first three seasons of Big 12 action.
    * In 13 seasons, Ohio State's John Cooper went 111-43-4, winning 10 games or more five times. Problem was he went 2-10-1 against Michigan.
    * The state of Louisiana is arguably the most underrated talent producer in the nation, and LSU gets its share.
    * Only one man has served as head coach at Penn State since 1966. Many of you reading this were not even borned then.
    * Nebraska won three national titles under Tom Osborne in the 1990s.
    * Auburn is a state school with a great following, but it will always be No. 2 in Alabama behind the Crimson Tide. Just fact men.
    * Texas A&M's facilities are among the very best in the nation.
    * Clemson is an SEC-like school that has the luxury of playing an ACC schedule.
    * Virginia Tech has won 10 games in seven straight seasons and in 10 of the last 12.
    * As long as Phil Knight and Oregon remain in good graces, this program will be blessed with tremendous financial resourses.
    * From 1989-2001, Tennessee went 80-20-1 in the SEC and claimed four league titles.
    * Last season, the Miami Hurricanes ranked 50th in the nation in attendance.
    * Since 1998, Notre Dame has had six non-winning seasons.

    continued..............

    * Since joining the SEC in 1992, South Carolina is 59-92-1 in conference play, with a high water mark of 5-3 on four separate occasions.
    * Since Oklahoma State joined the Big Eight in 1960, the Cowboys have finished ahead of Oklahoma just four times.
    * Washington won a national title in 1991 and claimed at least a share of five Pac-10 titles from 1990-2000.
    * Despite being a basketball school, North Carolina has made a huge financial commitment to football in the past decade.
    * West Virginia is the best coaching job in the Big East.
    * Michigan State is a chronic underachiever and will never be the No. 1 program in its own state.
    * The recruiting base in Wisconsin isn't strong; the state has not produced a national top-100 player in the past three seasons.
    * Boise State has won the WAC eight times in the last ten years and have averaged ten wins per season since 1999.
    * BYU's recruiting pool is somewhat limited; the school has trouble attracting black players.
    * Dating back to the days of the Big Eight, Missouri has had only six winning seasons in league play since 1983.
    * California has won only two Pac-10 titles (none outright) since 1958.
    * Ole Miss hasn't won a league title since 1963, and they are the only team in the West that has not played in an SEC Championship Game.
    * Pittsburgh has only had a winning record in 15 of 29 seasons since Jackie Sherrill bolted for Texas A&M in 1982.
    * South Florida lacks tradition and will always have a tough time beating out the Big Three (Florida, Florida State, Miami) for top prospects.
    * Arizona State has won three Pac-10 titles in 30-plus years in the league.

I disagree with your Michigan State asessment. They are the #1 program right now, well ahead of Michigan, which has fallen on very hard times.

BYU does have trouble attracting black athletes, but has an advantage of attracting older athletes who are married. Those athletes have a lot more physical and mental maturity, and that is important in the college game.

If Clemson were an SEC school, they would be fighting against the likes of Kentucky and Mississippi, not Florida and Alabama. That is how bad they have been overall lately.

yeah mich st is top program for now... LA talent is cool but Lsu gets alot of Texas and out of LA talent they do a good job of keeping who they want home. That state has a ton of speed i will say that for some reason the LA kids transfer out to the cali JCs ... alot of them no grades put plenty of 4.5s and 4.4s 40s

            * Michigan is the all-time winningest football school in history with a 884-310-38 record.
            * Michigan State has averaged 5.9 wins in the 43 seasons since claiming a share of the 1966 national championship.
            * Alabama leads college football with 17 undefeated, untied regular seasons.
            * The facilities at Arizona lag behind most of the other schools in the Pac-10.
            * Texas Tech has been one of the most consistent programs in college football over the past 20 years.
            * Virginia has won a total of two championships (both shared) in its 56 years in the ACC.
            * Illinois' local recruiting base from Chicago down into St. Louis is among the best in the Big-10.
            * Rich Brooks proved that Kentucky could be a consistent bowl team, but it will be difficult for this program to win an SEC championship.
            * Because of Stanford's academic standards, the recruiting pool shrinks considerably.
            * North Carolina State hasn't won an ACC championship since 1979 and has only six winning league seasons since 1990.
            * The location of Houston makes it the best job in C-USA.
            * Connecticut has top-notch facilities but fights a weak recruiting base.
            * The Akron Zips have one league title in school history.
            * New Mexico State hasn't won a bowl game since 1960.
            * Eastern Michigan averages less fans for home games that good high school teams here in Alabama.
            * Coaching at Rice is the toughest job in a great recruiting state.
            * San Jose State is a good coaching job if your wife and daughter are realtors.
            * Indiana has weak fan support and a weak recruiting base. Football will always come behind basketball.

              * Kent State has had only one winning season since 1987.
              * Utah State is a distant third in their own state behind.
              * Iowa State is a tough job but enjoys good fan support.
              * Duke is the only job in the ACC tougher than Wake Forest.
              * Vanderbilt has the galmour of the SEC, but so many hurdles.
              * Good coaches have been able to win at Maryland.
              * Kansas has a solid athletic department but no tradition.
              * Memphis has SEC recruiting base with C-USA support.
              * UAB has no tradition, no fan support and no future.
              * Arkansas State hasn't had a winning season in FBS ranks.
              * Louisiana-Lafayette is a better job than Louisiana-Monroe.
              * Central Florida's location makes it No.2 in C-USA behind Houston.
              * San Diego State is a sleeping giant still napping.
              * Basketball is king at Duke making football No. 4 in the state.
              * Football tradition can only take Syracuse so far.
              * Marshall is only the fourth best job in C-USA East.
              * Louisiana Tech has a great recruiting base but is totally miscast in the WAC.
              * Turner Gill proved that you can win at Buffalo.
              * East Carolina is a solid program with great fan support.
              * Kids had rather play for Air Force and Navy before Army.
              * Troy is easily the best program in the Sun Belt.
              * Hawaii has a tougher job recruiting than most people think.
              * Good coaches can win big at Central Michigan.
              * Nevada is a solid opportunity in a weak conference.
              * Air Force is the best job of the military schools.

                    ....did you know continued....

                    * Alabama's Paul "Bear" Bryant had a career record of 323-85-17 in 38 years of coaching at Maryland (6-2-1 in 1945), Kentucky (60-23-5 from 1946-53), Texas A&M (26-14-1 from 1954-57), and Alabama. His Alabama record in his 25 years, 1958-82, was 232-46-9. His Crimson Tide teams won six national championships (1961-64-65-73-78-79) and finished in the top ten another 13 seasons...19 of 25 seasons in the nation's top 10. Bryant's Alabama teams won 13 SEC championships. He also won one at Kentucky. He was SEC Coach of the Year 10 times, nine at Alabama, and national coach of the year in 1961, 1971, and 1973. The award now bears his name.

His Alabama teams won more games than any other team in the nation in the decade of the 1960s and again in the decade of the 1970s. His Alabama teams of 1977-80 were the first in NCAA history to win 44 games in four years. The Tide went to 24 bowl games in his 24 years. Alabama won all 25 homecoming games under Bryant. His record in Tuscaloosa was 72-2 (including a 57 game winning streak) and in Birmingham (Alabama's other home stadium) it was 68-15-5. Of his 25 Alabama teams, 13 won 10 or more games (and about half his tenure the season was only 10 regular season games). Alabama ranks second all-time nationally with 30 seasons of 10 or more victories.

Bryant was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1983, his first year of eligibility. Alabama's stadium was renamed Bryant-Denny Stadium in 1974. It is on Bryant Drive in Tuscaloosa, which leads to the Paul W. Bryant Museum. Alabama athletes study in the academic center, Bryant Hall. The most outstanding men's and women's scholar-athletes at The University each year receive the Paul W. Bryant Award. Hundreds of students have attended The University on Bryant Scholarships from a fund he established before his death.

The greatest coach in college football history!
