The Pac 10 has signed on to play the Big 12 in the Alamo Bowl, replacing the Big 10. This means that the Pac 10 and Big 12 will send top teams to two bowls, the Alamo and the Holiday Bowl, and probably a third bowl, the Sun Bowl. This also opens the door for the Big 10 to replace the Big East in the Gator Bowl.
With talk of a possible T.V. deal between the Pac 10 and Big 12 going on, and these bowl signings, it is aparent that the College Football world is headed for 5 "Super Conferences". The two in the West would be the Pac 10 (12) and the Big 12. The two in the South/South East would be the ACC and SEC. The Big 10 would expand to 12 and cover the Midwest past of the country. Basically this leaves the Big East out in the cold. They could expand to 12 teams by convincing Notre Dame to join the confernece, and taking teams like Temple, Buffalo, and Central Florida, but then what do they do with their overgrown hoops conference, that include non FBS Schools Villanova, Georgetown, Providence, Marquette, Seaton Hall, St. Johns an DePaul?
