The Preseason page at the College Football Poll site has the Top 25 predictions of six of the best-known preseason magazines.
They list the selections of Athlon, Lindy's, Phil Steele, Sporting News, The Gold Sheet and Street & Smith. Left blank at the moment - since they've not yet been published - are the AP and Coaches Polls. And of course any of the computer polls.
Just for fun and curiosity - and also because these are summer's dog days if you don't bet bases - I made a composite rating of every team that got a Top 25 rating by at least 5 of the 6 magazines.
Actually, only two teams garnerned mention by five magazines: Rutgers and California. All the others listed here were cited by all six.
It's of interest that Rutgers and California missed being shown on all six lists because both were left off by one magazine: Phil Steele's.
Here's how it came out:
1 - USC (the only team picked in the same spot by all six pubs. And, of course, picked on top. Trojans seem to have a very easy first half schedule).
3.2 - LSU
3.5 - W. Virginia
4.7 - Michigan
6.3 - Texas
7.5 - Florida
7.8 - Oklahoma (tie)
7.8 - Wisconsin (tie)
8.5 - Va Tech
10.3 - Louisville
13.7 - Georgia
14 - California
15.3 - Ohio State
16.1 - UCLA
16.2 - Rutgers
18.3 - Tennessee
20.5 - Nebraska
One other note: the only two magazines put out by handicappers, Steele's and TGS, were also the only ones to list South Carolina in the Top 25 - 13th and 22nd respectively.
