Jackson State at Mississippi State, 3:30 p.m., ESPNUTHE BUZZ: There's some history in this one. It's the first game for new Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen. It's the first-ever football game between an SEC school and a Southwestern Athletic Conference school. And it's the first-ever meeting between one of Mississippi's SEC schools and a historically black college or university. Plus, Jackson State starting QB Trae Rutland is a former Mississippi State player.THE LINE: No line. THE PICK: Mississippi State 33-13.

First, while Western Michigan has a questionable defense, it also has a big-time quarterback in Tim Hiller. Second, the Wolverines will be using two true freshmen at quarterback. Third - and most important - there have been all sorts of distractions for the Wolverines this week, and focusing on off-field stuff instead of on Western Michigan could end up costing the Wolverines.THE LINE: Michigan by 12.5. THE PICK: Michigan 27-21.
Nevada at Notre Dame, 3:30 p.m., NBCTHE BUZZ: A lot of folks are predicting big things for the Irish this season. But Notre Dame better not take the Wolf Pack lightly. Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick could have a huge game on the ground. But Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen should have a huge game in the air. The Irish ended last season by routing a WAC opponent, and now get another one to open this season.THE LINE: Notre Dame by 14.5. THE PICK: Notre Dame 37-24.
Georgia at Oklahoma State, 3:30 p.m., ABC regional/ESPN2/ESPN GamePlanTHE BUZZ: A huge game, especially for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have received a ton of preseason hype, but all that attention vanishes if they lose their opener. Georgia is under the radar this season, which is when Mark Richt teams usually perform their best. Missouri vs. Illinois in St. Louis, 3:40 p.m., ESPNTHE BUZZ: When these teams met last season, it was one of the biggest opening-week games. This season, no one really is mentioning it. But this game has a lot of intrigue. For Mizzou, the question is whether the Tigers can keep it going without QB Chase Daniel, WR Jeremy Maclin, et. al. For the Illini, the question is whether new offensive coordinator Mike Schultz (who was hired away from TCU) can rev up the rushing attack and take some pressure off QB Juice Williams.THE LINE: Illinois by 6.5. Rice at UAB, 4 p.m., Comcast/Charter Sports SoutheastTHE BUZZ: A quasi-important C-USA game. Why is it quasi-important? Because the loser is in line to be the worst team in the league this season. And it's the first-ever meeting between one of Mississippi's SEC schools and a historically black college or university. Third - and most important - there have been all sorts of distractions for the Wolverines this week, and focusing on off-field stuff instead of on Western Michigan could end up costing the Wolverines.THE LINE: Michigan by 12.5. Nevada at Notre Dame, 3:30 p.m., NBCTHE BUZZ: A lot of folks are predicting big things for the Irish this season. But Notre Dame better not take the Wolf Pack lightly. Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick could have a huge game on the ground. But Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen should have a huge game in the air. The Irish ended last season by routing a WAC opponent, and now get another one to open this season.THE LINE: Notre Dame by 14.5. THE PICK: Notre Dame 37-24.
Georgia at Oklahoma State, 3:30 p.m., ABC regional/ESPN2/ESPN GamePlanTHE BUZZ: A huge game, especially for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have received a ton of preseason hype, but all that attention vanishes if they lose their opener. Georgia is under the radar this season, which is when Mark Richt teams usually perform their best. Missouri vs. Illinois in St. Louis, 3:40 p.m., ESPNTHE BUZZ: When these teams met last season, it was one of the biggest opening-week games. This season, no one really is mentioning it. But this game has a lot of intrigue. For Mizzou, the question is whether the Tigers can keep it going without QB Chase Daniel, WR Jeremy Maclin, et. al. For the Illini, the question is whether new offensive coordinator Mike Schultz (who was hired away from TCU) can rev up the rushing attack and take some pressure off QB Juice Williams.THE LINE: Illinois by 6.5. Rice at UAB, 4 p.m., Comcast/Charter Sports SoutheastTHE BUZZ: A quasi-important C-USA game. Why is it quasi-important? Because the loser is in line to be the worst team in the league this season. UAB's Joe Webb might be the best running quarterback in the nation. Rice, meanwhile, is looking for an adequate replacement for departed QB Chase Clement.THE LINE: UAB by 5.5. THE PICK: UAB 37-33.

Both have legit reasons to think they can win the Big East. Rutgers' hopes are centered on its defense and its offensive line, Cincy's on what should be an explosive offense.
