    new college football head coaches
Who are the new college football head coaches that you expect to turn their teams around this year?

I nominate Tom Herman of the Texas Long Horns Its been a long time since the Long Horns have been real good contenders. Ever since they came out with the awful Long Horn Network they have been bad for the big 12.

The Top 5 are Herman, Fleck at Minnesota, Taggart at Oregon, Brohm at Purdue, and Rhule at Baylor. The problem is that all of these coaches are from the Group of 5, and former group of 5 head coaches do not do real well in Power 5 Conferences. Just ask Charlie Strong, Brian Kelly, Kevin Sumlin, Butch Jones, or Butch Davis. Success is very difficult for these head coaches.

Notre Dame is not a part of the power 5 conference they are independent.

Actually, they are part of the ACC. They just do not count in the final ACC Conference Football standings and cannot participate in their CC game. They must play 5 ACC games a season. They are part of the Power 5. That is what I was referring to.

One of the major problems these new coaches face is a very high expectation rate. These guys are suppose to turn average to poor teams into Conference Champions overnight. Look at the Top 5 and tell me which team has a legitimate chance to win their Conference Championship. I do not see any. The future looks just as bleak for Minnesota, Purdue, and Baylor. Texas may have a shot, but that is still a couple of years down the road. Oregon has major problems recruiting against the likes of USC, Washington, UCLA and Stanford.

agreed 100%........... alot of power 5 conference teams have unrealistically high expectations. either they shouldn't expect perennial 8+ win seasons or they can't expect things to be fixed too quickly. texas and oregon are highly fixable, just not really quickly.... so the sentiment turns negative on these new coaches really fast.

The two new Big 10 arrivals have the biggest mountain to climb. Neither Ohio State or Penn State are on the schedule for this season. Ohio State rotates into the schedule next season for both teams. Purdue has not has a winning regular season since 2007. Minnesota, who plays a notoriously weak non-con schedule has done better, but still has not won more than 5 conference since 2003.
