Washington Huskies Will Defeat Stanford By Double Digits! Game of the Year -3!
The stars are aligned for this contest. Too many angles favor the Huskies here. They are going to jump on Stanford early, and I expect that, unlike UCLA's Jim Moron, Coach Petersen won't huddle up in his shell once they do get a lead.

This is just a bad matchup at the wrong time for the Cardinal and the atmosphere in Seattle should be electric. This will mark the first time since 1997 that Washington has hosted a battle of two top ten teams. Huskies are chomping at the bit and Stanford's vanilla offense will be stymied by a purple wall that won't be bullied by David Shaw's caveman approach. Good luck trying to chase points with Ryan Burns, lol.

    Washington 33
    Stanford 13

Agreed, washington hasn't played anybody. They had trouble with a mediocre team (Arizona) and Stanford far more battle tested. Think about it. Is Arizona as good or better than USC or UCLA? Nah

Stanford has 2 starting corners out....I don't see Stanford scoring enough to win... Should be a shootout. Over is the play.

Good luck Eddy. I always enjoy reading your insights and write-ups. Just playing Devil's advocate here... what do you think about the battle in the trenches? You don't think Stanford will be able to control the ball with McCaffrey? I know Washington has a lot of talent on offense. Just not sure how much I trust them.

Well, I understand everyone's reservations about taking Washington but I feel like this game has a Husky win written all over it, with the potential for a rout. I could very well be wrong, but that's the nature of what we do. I gotta trust my instinct on this one. I'll go over a few points for clarification.

Washington struggled last week but it was a possible look-ahead spot for starters. With Stanford on deck, it's only human for youngsters to be somewhat emotionally disengaged, especially on the road, and against an opponent over which you are a heavy favorite.

Secondly, they were facing a backup quarterback, which on the surface looks like an advantage for U-dub, but in reality could have meant they were ill-prepared for what they were up against. That Dawkins kid could run like the wind, and his ability to make plays with his legs was a MAJOR reason why the game went to overtime. Ryan Burns, while somewhat athletic, does not bring that lightning-in-a-bottle skill set to the table.

Rich Rod runs his trademark spread offense, which can be difficult to for any defense to defend on the right night. Just look at how effective Clemson was marching up and down the field on Bama in last year's NC game. If you're not sound in your assignments, or emotionally flat, sometimes shit happens. Add an electric Dawkins to the mix, and you get a big bag of surprises for a Husky defense that is talented, but perhaps caught off-guard.

Stanford's pro-style offense to me has not looked spectacular this year. UCLA held them in check for a large portion of that game, save the last drive where they faced the vaunted "prevent" defense, that never seems to work. In my opinion, Washington's defense is the better than UCLA's by a considerable margin, and they will not be overmatched at the point of attack like so many of Stanford's lesser opponents. When McCaffrey is contained, let's face it, Stanford is downright average offensively. If Ryan Burns is forced to take to the air, I'm confident that that won't end well for the Cardinal either.

When Washington has the ball, I believe Stanford's biggest advantage is in the trenches, but the Huskies have a plethora of speed at the skill positions and they won't be overly reliant on hammering the ball between the tackles and allow Stanford to feast all night. Browning is a very efficient thrower and fairly mobile (unlike Max Browne or Josh Rosen). Ross brings deep speed to the outside, Lavon Coleman has home-run ability from the backfield, and Chico McClatcher is another quick-twitch gadget-type player that will have to be accounted for by the Cardinal defense. Plus, you have Chris Petersen on the sideline who won't be afraid to take chances with the playcalling.... This is the same guy who emptied the playbook in the Fiesta Bowl when Boise St. toppled Oklahoma.

Stanford was pretty damn lucky to have won last week and now they will enter a more hostile environment, after having played an emotionally charged game, and on a short week to boot. Huskies have the coaching advantage and the on-the-field advantage in most aspects of the game.

This is the time of year when everything you thought you knew begins to go up in flames anyways. I wouldn't be shocked to see this game get away from Stanford and their clout with the betting public could go along with it, while Washington places itself firmly on the map.

Thanks for your insights. I watched quite a bit of the Stanford/UCLA game last weekend, and I couldn't believe UCLA didn't hang on in that game. I thought UCLA should have been up double digits near the end, and really seemed to dominate for much of the game. Yes, the prevent defense prevents you from winning. A lot of the blame for UCLA's loss has to go to the coaching staff. Would you feel comfortable laying 3.5 here? Or would you buy it to 3 or even consider the UW moneyline?

One other concern... I noticed Zona's RB had 180+ yards rushing vs. Washington. They're going to have to play better run D tonight to beat Stanford.

I'm confident Washington covers the 3.5 and I generally don't buy points in college ball. You'll get juiced even more buying onto the key 3. I think Washington is going to bust the teasers that have Stanford in them.

Yep, they didn't play well last week, but I like that they got a reality check in time for this week, and that they managed to pull out the win. I know Washington has playmakers at every level of the defense, and with the home crowd behind them, I expect them to bring their "A" game tonight. And again, I feel like they matchup against the Stanford offense tremendously well.

Well, I thought this might be easy, but it's turning out to be even easier than maybe I anticipated.

I don't typically like to call games at halftime, but in this case I'll make an exception... Game Over.

My GOY in the bag! Hope you guys tailed.
