I hear a lot of talk about how Michigan State is a gritty team and the point spread is too much and so forth... but I just don't see them hanging with Alabama. I think it's a game that could be close early, but ultimately, Alabama will put points on the board and Sparty will struggle all night to move the ball.
When you think of teams that have given Bama a run for their money, they are teams that run spread offenses with mobile quarterbacks. Think Johnny Manziel's Aggies, or Ole Miss, or even Auburn. Oklahoma last year with Trevor Knight, and Utah the year they upset Bama, also ran the spread. In addition, Alabama had some motivation issues with the latter two mentioned, which obviously won't be the case for their upcoming game.
With Sparty, I don't see a dynamic attack that can expose Alabama. Connor Cook is a good quarterback, but he operates a pro-style offense, which plays right into the strength of Bama's defense. MSU isn't going to be able to line up and run the ball with any consistency, and when they drop back to pass, Cook is more or less a sitting duck for the Tide pass rush.
Maybe I'm nuts, but I think Alabama -10 is one of the better plays of bowl season. I'm seeing something like a 30-10 type of outcome, not too dissimilar from the SEC title game.
Let's hear some thoughts.
