    Bama Claims Top BCS Spot
Alabama has been ranked No. 1 all season and added being No. 1 in the Bowl Championship Series standings, which were released Sunday. Alabama's success begins with defense, which is coming together despite a serious of injuries lately. Bama's scoring defense climbed to No. 1 in the nation after the 52-0 shutout of Arkansas. The Tide allows only 9.7 ppg and that includes 42 points allowed to Texas A&M.

The rush defense has moved up to No. 8 in the nation at 98.2 yards per game and the pass defense is 9th nationally at 176 ypg. One over looked stat is first downs allowed...where Bama rankes 4th nationally allowing 100. Bama game up 31 to the Aggies and only 69 to the other six opponents.

I like where Alabama is headed right now and with Tennessee, LSU, Miss State, Chattanooga and Auburn remaining....like their chances for making a run for another title.

    BCS Standings: 1) Alabama....2) Florida State....3) Oregon....4) Ohio State.....5) Missouri.

    Welcome your comments....................

I think Auburn could pose a lot of problems to this Bama team.

Long time no see WH. I wish Saban would do some seminars during the off season to teach others how to field a defense. I'm getting very tired of watching these score fests every week. It's just not how the game should be played in my opinion....reminds me of arena football.

I agree Jaboo...the game is at Auburn and that game is always a slugfest...at least most years.

LSU will also be a dogfight but Bama gets them in Tuscaloosa.

Injuries can change everything...what a team can do and what the opponent can do. Look at what's happened to poor Georgia after losing a number of star players, especially their top two running backs and key receivers.

          Can't argue with that list.

Things will get interesting if Alabama stumbles.

Chunk, I totally agree my friend. I love good ole hard nosed defense. My favorite all-time Bama team is the 1961 national championship team that gave up only 25 points for the entire season. One reason I believe we will see Alabama vs Florida State in the title game is because of defense.

Alabama has won its last five games by a combined 201-16.

Yeah Sam, lot of football to be played for sure.

Look how Missouri and Auburn have jumped into the picture.

Preseason unranked Auburn is now up to 11th in BCS standings.

Can't believe what I'm seeing from Missouri. Thought Florida's D would cause problems, and it did for the first half but their complete lack of offense kept that D on the field and they got tired. I really like what I see from Missouri, very good on both sides of the ball. Very much looking forward to their game against South Carolina.

Florida may have the second worst offense in the SEC (Arkansas being the worst of course). Watching their last two games I just can't fathom how Florida, with all their recruits down there, can't find two QB's better than Driskell and Murphy to play QB.

I was surprised they didnt offer to let Clint Trickett transfer there. Hes easily better than Driskell or Murphy.

Huge...huge game this week for Missouri as they host South Carolina. I'm thinking the winner will represent the SEC East against the West (Bama my guess). Injuries have really shaken up the East Division and could again for this game. Missouri starting QB out and South Carolina may well be without its starting QB. I haven't heard Shaw's status after being injured Saturday.

If Missouri completes the sweep of Georgia, Florida and South Carolina (Saturday)...you got to think the Tigers would have the edge for Atlanta.

This Gamecock/Tiger game should be a good one. Both teams are pretty even with Missouri (maybe?) getting an edge for home field.

The only Alabama win that has impressed me to date was Ole Miss, and Bamas lack of offensive production against such a shit defense was interesting. TAMU didnt impress me because they shouldnt have kept it that close.

Remember Mizzou was without their starting QB this last game and it made no difference. Their 2nd string would Mauk (a very highly recruited QB) looked VERY good and would start on most teams. The offense didn't skip a beat. I give Mizzou the edge going into this South Carolina game but I think it stays close.

Joboo, the Tide's offense got a slow start because of several new guys on the offensive line. The running game suffered in some early games but now the line seems to be jelling. For the second consecutive game, Alabama eclipsed 500 yards of total offense with 532 against the Razorbacks and 668 the previous week at Kentucky. Bama has a two-headed stud in running backs TJ Yeldon and Kenyan Drake. Yeldon is good and gets the kudos but I'm not so sure Drake isn't better.

Yeah Huck....freshman QB Mauk performed pretty well in his first start. Now he has a week to think about the biggest game of the season for his team. Lots of pressure on a one game starter. He may come out and play like a veteran but again...lots of pressure on the kid. He will get some heat from Clowney and friends.

One key stat going for Mozu is turnovers. Would have to double check but I believe they lead the conference in takeaways. Another factor that may/may not favor the Tigers is South Carolina's defense which hasn't played well in the fourth quarter. I'm not sure the Gamecocks are in the best of physical shape and we are now entering midseason.
