    Money management strategies...
    I've learned a lot from you all over the last few years. With college football coming up, I was wondering if any of you have a good money management strategy that you use that you don't mind sharing (other than the obvious ones.) I know that some people here have talked about using hybrid labbys. Anyone have something that has been successful for you that you don't mind sharing? I'm will also be asking the same question in the other sections of SBR. Thanks in advance.

    To be honest with you I think the "Plus 3" method is the best.(This applies to college football only)

    I bet 3 categories a week (I throw each game that I like in its proper category.)

    Within my rules I likes to play around with the bottom, If I have a gut feeling.
    The strong category I throw in my big guns ONLY.

    1) Strongest = $500
    2) Medium = $300
    3) Medium -1 = $150

    This week goes as following:
    1= Bama -18 ///Oklahoma st. -12.5/// LSU -4
    2= GA ML
    3= MAS +44.5///LA Tech +13.5

        I tried the category method myself half of last year and got burned unfortunately. After that I started just flat betting the straight bets and doing teasers, parlays, pleasers.

        Interestingly enough, the teasers are what won for me last year while the straight bets would keep me above for the week if one team bombed.

        My method doesn't sound good but it had results. Trial and error is always the bet judgment for this stuff, you'll find out by week 5 what works and what doesn't.

            The only advice I would give about money management early on is ...RESTRAINT... In the past I always got too excited about week 1. I was looking at the card and analyzing for 4 weeks, so when it got here I had convinced myself that I knew everything about these games and they were money in the bank. The season never unfolds the way you think it will. Be careful the first couple of weeks and let the teams show you just who they are. You want to be in the game when the snow starts falling.
            Early on Im willing to take 2 and 3 team moneyline parlays and teasers as a safety net for heavy chalk. Im willing to take taller odds with safer (relative) results early on to build up the bankroll until I have a firmer grip on teams.
            Example; bama -1100/ okst -450 and maybe a fresno at -360 for a 72% return...or even just bama and okst for a 33% return in addition to SU. 18 and 14 pt chalk leaves alot of room for a backdoor cover.

            Just my 2cts

              Here is what I have beenn doing and it has made me one hell of a lot of money over the past 25 years:

              1. Always wager the same amount of money on every game you play. It is really simple. Either the game is worth a wager or it is not. If it is worth a wager, then play it. There is no point going 3-1 and taking a loss because your one big play was a loser. It is all in the odds, and the math.

              2. NEVER chase. Do NOT double your wager to make up for a losing wager. That simply does not work. That is the fastest way to wipe yourself out financially, in a big hurry.

              3. DO NOT feel that you have to wager on every game that is on TV. Vegas loves that attitude, because the greater the number of games you wager on, the greater the chances are that you will end up losing overall. Only wager on games that your system tells you to wager on. Wagering on every televised game is why 85% of the people in here are losers, whether they want to admit it or not.

              4. NEVER tail anyone. If yo need someone else to tell you who to wager on, you obviously have no clue and should NOT be wagering on College Football.

              5. Set an amount for the entire season that you can afford to wager and stick to it. All of you guys who "reload" are perfect examples of losers who just have to give it one more shot to try and get even. Believe me, you NEVER get even.

                I agree with alot of what you say BigDaddy. Certainly never chase. If youre on tilt you never see clearly. Of course dont bet on all TV games, if you bet to have fun thats exactly what youll end up with at the end of the season, fun but no cash.
                As for the amount you can lose, that varies. If you end up reloading, change the way you are betting, it aint working.
                I disagree with you on tailing. With the internet it makes sense to take advantage of the wisdom on these boards. Nobody, including yourself, knows everything. We can all learn and take advantage of the angles that others see. Some live down south and have insights into the SEC that I dont have living in the mountain west. It would be silly to think my angle is superior to a board vet who lives and breathes SEC football. Im not saying dont do your own research but the more info and input on anything is better. Remember, "chance favors the prepared mind"
                As for betting the same amt regardless. I again disagree. I take advantage of all that is offered. I dont bet to win big every week but to win big every year. Bet smartly and prudently not rigidly. Coaches dont care how much they win by but they care greatly how much they lose by. A team down by 24 will bust its nut to lose by 17, that sucks when you have the winner -20. Teams with a BIG game next week wont open up the playbook too much, all that comes into play when choosing your card.
                Im sure BigDaddy has done extremely well lately but Im also sure he didnt start capping a year ago. Lots of experience is the recipie for his success, Im assuming. As a newbie be careful, dont get overly excited about any one game and scrape together as much info from proven winners on the net.

                GOOD LUCK and thx to daddy for the info.

                    Ya if you are starting out with a small BR I would definitely use Bigdaddy's technique.

                        Perhaps I should clarify what I mean by "tailing". To me, "Tailing" is blindly following someones lead. Now Ihave found that a lot of great info can be gathered by reading the posts in this, and other sites. Info that may lead you to making a certain wager, but more likely will lead you to passing on a wager that you were thinking about. Remember sometiomes the best wager is no wager at all. So these sites can be very valuable, but you must consider who is doing the posting. Homers are the absolute worst people to follow, other than those in here who just flat lie about their records. Know about who is who in here.

                          i actually like the idea of betting a tiny amount on all kinds of games. keeps you in the flow of information by paying closer attention. you definitely notice whether you win or lose even very small bets.

                          depends on your circumstances (i.e. definition of bankroll), but i think i see saavy guys putting 1% to 3% into each pick. can do more if you have a good job, but i wouldn't go over 5% or so if you want to take this seriously

                            You will invariably bet on the tv games. Have yourself a small pool of money to bet these games when they don't fit your system. Make them small wagers...and learn something from them. Best advice I could possibly give is to use some of your bankroll for a good cable package and watch as many games as possible.

                              Money management largely boils down to not risking too much on any one play and not having too much of your BR in action at any one time. For a BR under $1000, call it an absolute max of 5% per play and 25% in action, or 3% & 15% for bigger bankrolls. The risk amount for 3+ game parlays and teasers (if you insist on playing them), should be 10% of what you'd risk on a straight bet.

                              Beyond that, just try to be consistent in how you approach the games. No chasing, no talking yourself into plays for the sake of action when you had initially decided to pass on a game. Pretend it's not your money and you'll have to answer to someone about your decision-making if you lose money.

                                  Very good thread. Good info.
                                  I tend to bet evenly and smaller, only increasing wagers for my "big game" with the houses money. If I'm not playing with the houses money I stay small.
                                  Like Capt. K I like to take a card full of big ML favorites on a parlay and put a few dollars on it for recreational purposes, ANYTHING over 5 teams is extremely difficult to win because there's always upsets, but if the games are spread throughout the day the entertainment value is worth it
                                  TV games...when in doubt bet SBR points on a game you want to watch but can't pull the trigger on with real dollars
                                  BOL everyone this year!
