    Two New Quarterbacks to Watch
There will be a number of new starters at quarterback across the country this season. Two you may not know much about entering this season are Florida State's Jameis Winston and Baylor's Bryce Petty.

Jameis Winston, a 6-4, 220 pound redshirt freshman duel threat quarterback is a great athlete with a strong arm. He was rated by most services as the No. 1 quarterback recruit coming out of high school. During spring drills, he was so impressive that his main competition for the starting job transferred shortly after. Expectations are very high for Winston and I believe he has the skills to deliver.

Bryce Petty, a 6-3, 230 pound junior, has watched two record setting quarterbacks perform the past two years (Robert Griffin, 2011 and Nick Florence, 2012) and now it's his turn to direct coach Art Briles high-octane offense (2nd nationally last year). Petty has only thrown 14 passes in limited mop-up duty but has the tools and confidence to keep this offense flying.

Welcome any comments or other new QB starters to watch.........

Devin Gardner at Michigan is intriguing to me. With Denard Robinson the last two season, I think Al Borges has had to scale his offense back a little bit. By that, I mean not being able to really run his offense. I think with Gardner you'll see less spread and more of a true west coast with a more controlled passing game than what you saw with Robinson.

Im also a fan of Austin Carta-Samuels at Vanderbilt taking over for Jordan Rogers. Carta-Samuels was a nice player when he was at Wyoming. Im anxious to see if James Franklin can keep taking Vandy in the right direction.

Im also taking a look at Pete Thomas for NC State. He has some decent talent around him as he returns his top two rushing threats along with 8 of his top 10 receiving options. I watched Thomas a good bit when he was Colorado State under Coach Steve Fairchild, who will now be the Offensive Coordinator at Virginia. Not a bad quarterback. Anxious to see what Dave Doren can do in Raleigh.

I also like Vad Lee at Ga Tech taking over for Tevin Washington.

While all of these guys will now be the starter, they have all played and are not coming straight off the bench like Winston and Petty. Im hearing great things about Petty. People in Waco like him a lot, and just my opinion, Im a big fan of Briles.

I agree with you that Devin Gardner has a chance to be something really special this season. He's not the runner that Robinson is, but he's a better passer and more complete quarterback. If he can get some help from the young offensive line and a little production out of the running back position, he may be in line for a super season.

I'll have to study up on State's Thomas...knew he was a transfer but not much else.

      Thanks Bud.

Famous Jameis plays baseball too. Could be an All-timer if he keeps his head right

Winston would be starting for Alabama next year if he had chosen the Tide. He played high school ball about 40 miles down the interstate from Tuscaloosa. Bama recruited him hard...real hard. FSU baseball won out....

He played baseball for FSU this past season hitting .235. As a pitcher, he had 2 saves and a 1-2 record. Can't be easy competing for the starters job in football and trying to play baseball...much at the same time.

Pete Thomas owns the record for most passing yards by a freshman in the MWC when he was at Colorado State (2662)

I predict JUCO QB Nick Marshall wins the starting job at Auburn. He is 6-2, 210 pounds, and has a 40 time between 4.4 and 4.5. He seems to fit Gus Malzahn's system very well.
