Big 10 Renames and Realligns Football Teams for 2014
The Big 10 has Realligned and renamed their Football Divisions for 2014. The nw allignment looks like this:

East: Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers.

West: Illinoois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue, and Wisconsin.

This allignment comes as no surprise to anyone. Michigan and Ohio State were more than happyto end up in the same Division.

Bigdaddy, I'm glad to see the Big 10 drop that Leaders and Legends sillyness and go with something that makes since. East and West divisions people can relate to.

Looking at the Big 10 East reminds me a little of the SEC West. Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State are traditionally strong football programs. The West seems weaker in my opinion.

    Thanks Bud.............

The West is weaker, but still has some good teams like Nebraska and Wisconsin. Northwestern can never be taken for granted, and Iowa may wake up some day. Purdue has pulled an upset or two. This is like the "spoiler" division in the Big 10.

As Bigdaddy posted back a week or so ago...the Big Ten presidents and chancelors approved yesterday (Sunday) divisions being renamed East and West. The new alignments will begin in 2014 when Rutgers and Maryland join the conference, meaning "Legends" and "Leaders" will be a thing of the past. Teams will go from playing eight conference games to nine in 2016.

Schools will play six division games plus two against teams from the other division in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, they'll play three cross-division games. Indiana and Purdue will meet on an annual basis.

Shockingly, the Big Ten actually got something right. Indiana and Purdue should play each other every year. 9 games is the way to go. Eventually, all of the conferences will be forced into a 9 game schedule or face a ton of pressure from the guys who decide things like who is going to which playoff game and where it will be played.
