    UNI FOOTBALL QUICK HITS
UNI is making its seventh trip to the national semifinals and will be looking for its second berth into the FCS championship game. UNI reached the national title game in 2005 by defeating Texas State in overtime, 40-37.

Saturday's game marks the third time that UNI will host a national semifinal game. UNI dropped a 40-33 matchup to Georgia Southern in 1985 and the Panthers fell to Youngstown State in 1992, 19-7.

Dome-field advantage has always been key for UNI football. The Panthers sport a 168-41-1 all-time record in the UNI-Dome. Included in that mark is a record of 14-3 in postseason game in the UNI-Dome. The Panthers have won nine of their last 10 postseason games in the UNI-Dome.

    • UNI will be looking for its nine win at home this season, which would set a school record for home wins in a single season. The 1992 and 1996 Panthers both won eight games in the UNI-Dome.

    • UNI is averaging 29.9 points per game this season but it hasn't just been the offense that has been contributing. The UNI defense has scored four touchdowns and recorded three safeties this season. UNI has returned two interceptions for touchdowns and two fumbles for touchdowns.

    • Senior running back Corey Lewis became the third Panther to surpass 5,000 all-purpose yards in his career. Lewis has tallied 5,011 all-purpose yards and trails only Kenny Shedd (6,173) and Dedric Ward (5,987) on the Panthers' all-time list. Earlier in the playoffs against Maine, Lewis became the school's all-time leading rusher and has now rushed for 3.926 yards and 41 total touchdowns.

Farley is in his eighth season at the helm of the Panther program. Farley has posted a mark of 75-27, which ranks him tied for fourth with Terry Allen on the Panthers' coaching victory list.

The 2008 UNI Panthers became just the sixth team in school history to tally 10 wins in a regular season. The previous five times it happened in school history came in 1985 (10-1), 1991 (10-1), 1992 (10-1), 1996 (10-1) and 2007 (11). In fact the Panthers' 21 regular season wins over the past two seasons are the most in any two-year span of UNI football.

    THE GAME
The No. 3-seeded University of Northern Iowa football team will take on the No. 7-ranked University of Richmond Spiders in the semifinals of the 2008 NCAA FCS playoffs. UNI and Richmond will meet at 3 p.m. (Central) in the UNI-Dome on Sat., Dec. 13.
The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the national championship in Chattanooga, Tenn., to take on the winner of the James Madison-Montana game on Dec. 19.

    THE SERIES
This is the first meeting between UNI and Richmond on the gridiron. However, UNI has matched up with a Colonial Athletic Association team in each of its past four playoff games - two against New Hampshire (2007 and 2008) and once against Maine (2008) and Delaware (2007).

    THE COACHES
UNI head coach Mark Farley is in his eighth season at the helm of the Panther sideline. Farley has posted a mark of 75-27 in his eight seasons, which now includes five trips to the NCAA FCS playoffs. Farley earned the 2007 Eddie Robinson Award after guiding the Panthers to a perfect 11-0 regular season and No. 1 national ranking for the final six weeks of the regular season. Farley is 9-4 in the postseason.
Richmond is led by first-year head coach Mike London. The Spiders have posted an 11-3 record this season for London, who is a 1993 graduate of Richmond.

    TELEVISION
The game will be televised nationally by ESPN/ESPNHD/ESPN360.com. Joe Tessitore (play-by-play) and Rod Gilmore (analyst) will have the call.

    RADIO
The game will be broadcast on the UNI Sports Network. Gary Rima (play-by-play) and Scott Peterson (color) will have the call. The flagship station will again be KXEL-AM (1540 - Waterloo/Cedar Falls) and will be joined by KCHA FM-AM (95.5, 1580 - Charles City), KXNO AM (1460 - Des Moines), KVFD AM (1400 - Fort Dodge), KQCR FM (98.9 - Hampton), KQMG FM (95.3 - Independence), KRIB AM (1490 - Mason City), KILJ FM (105.5 - Mount Pleasant) and KQWC AM (1570 - Webster City).

BOONE, N.C. - No. 7 Richmond forced seven turnovers, including five interceptions of QB Armanti Edwards, and stunned No. 2 Appalachian State, 33-13, Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium in the Quarterfinals of the 2008 FCS Playoffs. The victory snapped the FCS record 13-game winning streak in postseason play by the three-time defending National Champion Mountaineers.

Junior CB Seth Williams, who earned the start with junior David Horton injured, tied a Richmond single-game record with three interceptions, while senior TB Josh Vaughan rushed for 133 yards and a career-best three TDs. Junior QB Eric Ward added a career-best 91 yards rushing and a TD to the winning effort.

The Spiders (11-3) now advance to the FCS Semifinals for the second consecutive year and avenged last season's loss in the semis to App. State (11-3), while tying a school-record for wins (2007).

Richmond, who remains the lone unseeded team in the tournament, will travel to third-seeded Northern Iowa (12-2) next weekend and play either Friday at 8 p.m. ET or Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. Fourth-seeded Montana travels to top-seeded James Madison. The NCAA will announce the dates of those games on Sunday.

Edwards, who ran over the Spiders in last year's game for an FCS playoff record 313 yards, was limited to just three yards rushing on eight carries and a TD on this snowy Saturday in Boone.

Richmond bottled up the explosive ASU offense to just 39 yards on 23 carries - making the seventh-straight opponent and 11th this to not gain more than 100 yards on the ground versus Richmond. It also marked a season-low rushing total for the Apps, surpassing the 52 yards gained in their opener at LSU.

Edwards did throw for 323 yards and one touchdown, but his career-worst five interceptions all came in the second half and led to four Richmond scores, totaling 24 points.

Sophomore LB Patrick Weldon tied his career high with 11 tackles, had a career-high four tackles for loss, had a sack and a pass breakup, while fellow sophomore LB Eric McBride made 10 stops. Michael Ireland and Justin Rogers had the other interceptions.

The Spiders scored 27-second half points to pull away from ASU, after trailing 7-6 at halftime.

Richmond took the lead for good on its first drive of the second half, which resulted in a 36-yard field goal by Andrew Howard to make the score 9-7. Williams picked Edwards on the ensuing possessions and returned it 35 yards to the ASU one and Vaughan's one-yard, second-effort plunge on third down made it 16-7.

Williams picked off Edwards again on the Apps' next drive and returned this one 40 yards to the five. One play later, Ward was in the end zone to put the Spiders in control.

Edwards' TD pass late in the third quarter gave the Mountaineers and their crowd of 15,215 to life, but the fourth quarter interceptions by Ireland and Rogers each resulted in points - a 27-yard field goal by Brian Radford and a one-yard rush by Vaughan - to ice it.

Ward finished the game 10-of-21 passing for 121 yards, but had a career-day rushing with 16 carries for 91 yards and a score. He and the Spiders played a turnover-free game and owned a season-best plus-seven turnover margin.

Appalachian went three-and-out on its first series of the game and the Spider defense had made it two-straight, but Richmond was flagged for running into the kicker and the drive stayed alive. Aided by two more flags - a 15-yard face mask penalty and a pass interference penalty - ASU had the ball at the two and Edwards' keeper up the middle put the home team up 7-0.

The Spiders took advantage of a good return by Rogers and cashed in seven plays and 59 yards later, thanks to a 13-yard TD run by Vaughan. Andrew Howard pushed his extra point attempt wide right - just his second missed PAT in 144 career attempts - and ASU held its lead at 7-6.

The Spiders had a chance to seize the lead before halftime, but the drive stalled inside the 20 and Howard's 35-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right -- his first miss this season in six attempts between 30-39 yards -- with two minutes remaining.

Edwards' arm quickly moved the Apps downfield to set up a field goal attempt, but Weldon sacked Edwards for a nine-yard loss and Jason Vitaris' 38-yard field goal also sailed wide of the right upright.

The Spider secondary had seven pass breakups (three from Rogers) to go with the five interceptions, while Parker Miles and J'Nnamdi Smaugh had the fumble recoveries.
