    Miami Hurricanes QB Kyle Wright
Miami Hurricanes QB Kyle Wright was ranked second in the ACC in passing efficiency last season (137.22), and thre for 2,403 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 INTs. However, this year he's going to be playing under a new offensive coordinator this year in Rich Olson. So will his numbers be better, worse or about the same?

manages the game well, pretty mobile...don't know if he'll ever be a heisman caliber QB, but definitely a good college QB...

        Blue Ribbon Yearbook.

Coker has to wonder -- if Olson can make Torretta a Heisman winner, what can he do for current Miami starter Kyle Wright (6-4, 220)? On the surface, the junior from Danville, Calif., appears to have more physical tools than Olson's previous quarterbacking protégé.

"He's smart and tough and competitive and has all the skills," Coker said.

Wright, who was rated the nation's top quarterback prospect after throwing for 37 touchdowns as a senior at Monte Vista High, took at redshirt year at Miami, then played sparingly in 2004 as a backup to Brock Berlin. It wasn't until last season that Wright stepped into the starting role and showed what he could do.

As it turned out, he did a lot -- he completed 58.6 percent of his passes for 2,403 yards and 18 touchdowns. He tied Florida State's Drew Weatherford for the ACC lead in touchdown passes and finished second to Virginia Tech's Marcus Vick in passing efficiency.

"So statistically, he did some good things," Coker said. "For a first-time starter, he did very well."

He might have done better with a bit more help. The offensive line started slowly, giving up a school-record nine sacks in the opener against Florida State, not a great way for a young quarterback to start his career. Later, an injury to tailback Tyrone Moss hurt the running game, putting even more pressure on Wright. And although senior Sinorce Moss had a solid senior season at wide receiver, the receiving corps was never up to past Miami standards.

"There were times when we didn't help him out as much as we should have," Coker said.

At his best, Wright was superb ... like at Wake Forest, when he threw for five touchdowns and 319 yards. He topped 200 yards in half of Miami's 12 games and was better than 50 percent on his pass attempts in 11-of-12 games. But there's no question Coker will be raising the bar of expectations this season as Wright returns for his second year as a starter.

"I think you'll see a major improvement," Coker said.
