    Quinton Jackson ARRESTED

    Jackson arrested after police chase

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was arrested and held on $25,000 bail following a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon in Costa Mesa, Calif.

According to Costa Mesa police Lt. Paul Dondero, an officer observed the 30-year old Jackson driving with a flat tire on his 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck and talking on his cell phone (which recently became illegal while driving in Calif.) and attempted to pull him over.

Dondero said Jackson, a resident of Irvine, Calif., ignored the officer and continued driving with the officer in pursuit.

Police had received a report of a vehicle involved in a collision on the 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa, which struck other vehicles and fled the scene, Dondero said.

The chase continued with the vehicle weaving in and out of traffic, including at one point driving on the wrong side of the road and even on a sidewalk, scaring pedestrians.

Dondero said Jackson hit two cars at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard at 1:13 p.m., but failed to stop. He said a Costa Mesa police officer saw the truck near 17th Street and attempted to pull it over.

Jackson fled and hit at least one more car before the five-minute chase ended with his arrest, the lieutenant said.

The car continued to Newport Beach, where the tire blew out and came off the rim and he was taken into the Orange County Central jail. The fighter was charged with hit-and-run driving, felony evading and reckless driving.

UFC president Dana White flew to Orange County upon learning of the arrest and said he was driving to the county jail to post bail for Jackson.

The story was initially reported by the website TMZ.com, which has photos of Jackson lying face down on the street behind his truck, a 2008 Ford F-350 turbo diesel, as a police officer has his gun drawn and is pointing it at him.

Jackson won the UFC light heavyweight title by knocking out Chuck Liddell at UFC 71 on May 26, 2007. After a successful defense against Dan Henderson on Sept. 5, Jackson lost the belt to Forrest Griffin on a controversial decision at UFC 86 on July 5 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Jackson’s manager/trainer, Juanito Ibarra, did not immediately return phone calls.

    Jackson detained for observation

    By Ken Pishna/MMAWeekly.com

Just one day removed from being arrested by the Costa Mesa (Calif.) police department and charged with alleged felony evasion, hit-and-run, and reckless driving, former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson found himself in the custody of another California jurisdiction.

Although Jackson was not arrested again, the Irvine police escorted him to mental health professionals for observation due to reports of Jackson being a possible threat to himself and others.

“We did go out to the residence where he was staying at 4:31 p.m. PT (on Wednesday in the city of Irvine). We were asked to assist with him and make sure that he was safe and not a danger to himself or others,” said Lt. Rick Handfield of the Irvine police. “He was exhibiting some unusual behavior that his friends that were there felt concerned.”

Details of Jackson’s exact behavior were not forthcoming.

“At the conclusion of our contact, we did detain him and take him to be seen by mental health professionals,” continued Lt. Handfield. He was not released back to Irvine police. “We left him with the mental health professionals.”

Due to privacy laws, there is no further information on the findings of the mental health professionals.

On Tuesday, Jackson was arrested by the Costa Mesa Police Department following a high-speed chase down Newport Boulevard that allegedly involved multiple collisions between the custom painted pick-up truck that Jackson was identified as driving and other vehicles. He was also reported to have crossed over the median into oncoming traffic and running red lights, causing pedestrians to flee out of the way before Jackson was taken into custody.

Jackson’s pick-up is detailed by a custom camouflage paint job with his likeness and sponsor logos emblazoned across the side.

He was released from Costa Mesa authorities on $25,000 bail overnight Tuesday night, leading up to Wednesday’s incident in Irvine.

Jackson defeated Chuck Liddell for the UFC light heavyweight title in May of 2007. He held that title for more than a year, until losing two weeks ago at UFC 86 in Las Vegas by unanimous decision to current champion Forrest Griffin.

Ultimate Fighting Championship officials have not commented on the situation.

With the constant losses on the show and then losing the title two weeks ago, it is evident that the guy completely snapped.

    Pretty sad.

    Murder???

Woman injured in 'Rampage' hit-and-run suffers miscarriage

    Posted by MMAFighting.com 08/02/08—5:52 PM

Holli Griggs, the 38-year-old woman who was driving a 2007 Cadillac Escalade when Quinton "Rampage" Jackson sideswiped her in his monster truck, has suffered a miscarriage, The Daily Pilot reports.

Griggs' fiance told the local paper that doctors had been concerned when they noticed a significant loss of fluid in Griggs' womb following the accident. Griggs was 16 weeks pregrant at the time of the incident.

Jackson, who lost his UFC light-heavyweight title on July 5, was arrested July 15 afternoon after leading the police on a wild car chase in California through Cosa Mesa to Newport Beach.

Jackson hit two cars turning off the 55 Freeway into Newport Boulevard and sped away when a police driver tried to pull him over for driving witha blown tire and talking on the cellphone. Jackson struck more cars while continuing to evade the police and almost hit pedestrians when he drove onto the sidewalk. Jackson ran through several red lights before finally stopping for the police under gunpoint.

Jackson was transported to the Costa Mesa City Jail where he was booked for felony evading, reckless driving and hit and run. He was released on $25,000 bail by UFC President Dana White.

Griggs has not yet filed charges against Jackson.
