#430Koumas for SC.
Wade for Arizona.
CWS Championship Series: Game 1
Pitching edge slightly to Wade simply because he's been getting regular work and is 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA in the NCAAs. Solid work. Koumas has battled injuries this season, but won't be intimidated here. As a freshman last year, he started Game 1 of the Championship Series against Florida and held the Gators to just one run over 5+ IP. That will be perfectly fine for them tonight with a bullpen that has been nearly flawless in Omaha. Arizona did have a break out game offensively in eliminating Florida State, but they got six of those runs early on miscues and nerves from the freshman. Prior to that, the Wildcats were steady with four runs in each of their first two games. SC has been winning with pitching without a doubt with just 17 runs in five games and seven of those coming in their opener against Florida.
*Game 1 Bet: UNDER 10 [-115]
*Series Bets: Arizona Wins +120/S.Carolina to Win 2-1 +245
I think the under has to continue to be played. Obviously errors, walks and weird bounces can contribute to the odd break out like Arizona had against FSU - but all in all, pitching is King now and any time you see a double digit total, I would say as long as the pitchers are competent, attack the under. Wade definitely has proven his worth. Koumas despite his inactivity is a solid arm and SC won't hesitate to yank him early if he struggles and hand it over to their bullpen.
Series bets, making even one unit wagers on both results. I think Arizona has the consistent offense that can pressure SC all series long and potentially carry them to a Championship. Certainly, SC has the swagger and mystique that sometimes defies explanation. I will not put it past them to win simply because Michael Roth is going to pitch in this series and that gives them a chance to win. I do think though with the inconsistency of SC's offense that Arizona is going to win a game in this series even if they lose eventually. That's why I chose SC 2-1. Even though SC has won both their titles in sweeps, this team is much more vulnerable IMO.Comment -

#432CWS Championship Series: Game 2
Line is a pick 'em tonight. Farris for Arizona who hasn't pitched since June 3. Roth goes for SC on short rest. Short rest or not, Roth is the far better pitcher and has a brilliant postseason mark for his career on both normal/short rest. Farris also has the pressure of trying to clinch a National Title. I think he is the kind of pitcher SC can hit though. He pitches to contact and has a .274 BAA. Total is 9. Barring Roth just simply having nothing to offer, the under looks like the smarter option but I think it will be close this time because I do expect SC to get some runs off Farris and even off Roth, Arizona could get enough to make it close.
*Game 2 Bet: South Carolina -105

#433Should have just banged the under again. Roth is Roth. SC can't hit Farris for shit. 1-0 'Zona in the 5th. Not sure SC has the bats to get anything. They might need some walks and/or mistakes from Arizona to get a run.Comment -

#434Looks like the Cocks are cooked. Arizona goes up 2-1 in the 9th and threatening for more. Even if they keep it 2-1, I don't think SC is going to get back even - I also think 'Zona is going to add a couple more though.

#436So few early games posted last year. Not sure where I ended up after the CWS. Was up heading in, probably lost a chunk of the overall profit during CWS - but think still came out above the break even mark. Have to do some math after a while. Going to start early this year and see where we land. Hopefully 5Dimes stays consistent posting lines all season!

Not going to do huge write-ups for these, but as posted elsewhere - UCI has the better pitcher with Thurman starting this game and Baylor is re-tooling at quite a few positions + their rotation is shuffled quite a bit due to graduation and guys who left early. Think UCI has the pitching edge and enough offense to do it + motivating for losing to these guys last year on the road.

Ole Miss took the opener 1-0. Stellar pitching from Wahl as expected for the Rebels. Think the Frogs have a better pitching edge today with Morrison on the mound against Mayers. Mayers is fully capable of pitching a special game any time out, but he's more inconsistent than Morrison who was already arguably the Frogs best pitcher last year as a Freshman. Runs figure to be at a premium again with the teams combining for just nine hits in the opener. Likely could come down to which team gets one or two big hits with RISP.Comment -

Rice -145
Rubber game of the series between Stanford and Rice. As expected, pitching has dominated. Rice took advantage of some shaky Stanford D in the opener to win 5-2 with three unearned runs, while Stanford slipped by 3-2 in Game 2. Going with the home team to finish the series. Rice has the better pitching talent on the mound in John Simms who is an elite closer, but is once again pressed into the starting rotation due to injury. He filled this role late last year and proved solid in it. McArdle, the senior, for Stanford. He's crafty, but not overpowering. Rice will need to be patient at the plate and make McArdle work. Rice needs to get the big hit today. If they get a lead, they'll feel good about their chances.Comment -

Cal State Fullerton -175
Oregon visits. Slight edge for Oregon with the more experienced pitcher in Jake Reed going against one of Fullerton's good looking freshmen, Thomas Eshelman. Eshelman has followed the lead of the CSF staff, limit walks, pound the strike zone and let the defense do its thing. Edge offensively goes to the Titans. Oregon is hitting just .221 so far. They do have talent to hit better, but so far have struggled a little. Neither team has big pop. Oregon with just one HR. Fullerton has five, but has come up with big hits in key situations - scoring six runs or better in seven straight.Comment -

Rivalry with Clemson continues. Neat series set-up. They play all three games in different locations. Friday was at Clemson, SC blanked 'em 6-0. Today is "neutral" in Greenville and then Sunday's game at home for the Gamecocks. Pitching edge to SC today with the experienced senior Colby Holmes starting. He's 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA in two starts. Frosh Clate Schmidt goes for Clemson. He has one start under his belt with a 0.00 ERA in 6.2 IP overall, but he has been hittable. This figures to be a much bigger test though for him and the team which has not played outside the friendly confines of their home park yet this season. Offensively, edge goes to SC this season to me. They have a much more balanced lineup so far, led by LB Dantzler. Five regs hit over .273, four of them over .300. Clemson has a stud in Wilkerson who is hitting .406, but the rest of the team is struggling for consistency.

Taking a shot here. Both teams starting freshman pitchers tonight. Kellogg for ASU is already showing to perhaps be the Sun Devils best pitcher. Arkansas is loaded with a great bullpen + a solid lineup, but one thing is apparent for this tournament in Surprise, Arizona - the Razorbacks have not adapted well to life on the road in a MLB-sized ballpark. Arkansas has just two runs in two games here, losing already to ASU 3-2 on Thursday. It's a challenge for Kellogg, but this game looks a lot more even than the price suggests due to the bigger ballpark which should aid both pitchers.

Miami, FL +115
The Canes blew a big lead late yesterday as they dropped their 1st game of the season, a 6-4 loss to Florida. Eric Hanhold starts for Florida today. Lefty Andrew Suarez for Miami. Florida's bullpen has been taxed early this season, part of the season Florida is just 4-7. Hanhold only went three innings in his 1st start, so the big key today will be which starter can go deeper. Suarez has gone five innings in each of his starts and has been solid in both outings. This figures to be another tight game, but the bullpen edge and starting pitching edge goes to Miami IMO. The Gators have a bit more pop in their lineup, but Miami is more consistent so far with six starters hitting over .300.Comment -

Ole Miss -140
Rebels are on a major roll. They have just one loss all year and come in with 13 straight wins, including a 7-1 route of Arkansas in the series opener yesterday. They have a solid combo of offense and pitching which has propelled them thus far. Arkansas offers much the same as far as offense/pitching - but they have shown multiple times that good pitching shuts them down. Bobby Wahl did it Friday for Ole Miss. Today, it's Mike Mayers who leads the Rebels with a 1.52 ERA and blanked Arkansas twice last year. Fant goes for Arkansas. He's been nearly untouchable in two starts with a 0.90 ERA, but this will by far be his biggest test .

Arkansas +200
Been a bit since I found a line enticing, but this is one I think warrants a roll. Last time I backed a road team on a major roll, it was Ole Miss who got blasted by Arkansas. This time, LSU is on the roll. 15 straight wins including the series opener. This is their 1st substantial road series though and Arkansas cannot afford to lose much more ground in the SEC race. Eades for LSU. Stanek for Arkansas. When these two met last year @ LSU, a doozy of a pitcher's duel with LSU winning 2-1 with a run in the 9th. Both guys have been brilliant this season, so this figures to be another low scoring game where the teams scrape out a run or two that could decide it. With that being a probable outcome, I think getting the big dog price on the Razorbacks at home is worth a shot.Comment -
