I am not completely naive. But is a "unit" whatever someone decides to make it. As if, my betting units for the year will be $20 dollars and I am laying 2 units on X team for $40 total bet?

    Thanks in advance.

A unit to me is a standard per game bet. It can be anything that you consider a regular bet.

Unit is just the term used to show your bet... Some people may use a $100 as a unit others a $1000. Most people don' want you to know there actual wager amount but a unit shows the confidence in a play without giving the $$$

Each unit stands for 1 percent of someones entire bankrole. exe. 5 units = 5%

Some people will play to win a certain 'unit' amount, and some will risk 'unit' amounts.
Lets say a line is -150, I for one would bet $15 to win $10. (1.5 units to win 1)
If the line was at +150, I would be betting $10 to win $15. (1 unit to win 1.5) If it wasn't a confident play, I may bet $6.66 to win $10. (.66 units to win 1)
Some may 'flat' bet it, where they will just risk the same unit amount for each game. (-150 they would bet 1 unit to win .66, or +150 they would bet 1 unit to win 1.5)

Read my thread to better understand how to wager and how much to wager. A unit is anything you want it to be. $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 or $100.00

FLAT BETTING is the best and most successfull style of wagering to have proper money management for the long term.
