Jessica Andrade vs. Cynthia Calvillo

UFC Women's Flyweight Bout

Saturday, September 25, 2021 - 10:05 PM EDT at T-Mobile Arena

The women's flyweight division will kick off this weekend's stacked main card at UFC 266, and who better than former champion Jessica Andrade and rising star Cynthia Calvillo to get the ball rolling. Jessica Andrade (21-9-0) has fought the who's who amongst the UFC's flyweight, strawweight, and bantamweight weight classes.

She's found a new home in the 125lb division, and despite losing her shift in weight debut, we can forgive her for taking the loss against Valentina Shevchenko, arguably the most incredible women's mixed martial artist in history. Andrade successfully lifted Rose Namajunas into the air and sent her crashing for a TKO victory to capture the UFC strawweight championship in 2019.

Don't allow her small stature to fade your judgment, as her lack of height is made up for in brute strength. Cynthia Calvillo (9-2-1) has also been hunting for the correct weight class and has decided to move up from strawweight into the flyweight division based on her struggles cutting down to 115lbs. The American-born wrestling-focused martial artist has had setbacks since joining the promotion in 2017, but her 6-2 record inside the UFC shouldn't be ignored.

UFC 266 Parlay Pick and Odds

The matchup ahead doesn't look ideal for Calvillo, as she's found most of her success through the utilization of a wrestling-based offense. Andrade is strong, and sure, she can be taken down but keeping her grounded will require a level of strength and technique I don't believe Calvillo possesses. When Andrade was rag-dolling Claudia Gadelha around the octagon, it surprised most as Gadelha was respected in this area much like Calvillo.

When we compare the striking output of each fighter, Calvillo should also lose this aspect of the fight. Her timing is slow, a lack of power is evident, and behind her basic 1-2's is a fighter that can become easily pressured and out-pointed. The available UFC odds with Sportsbook Review are providing some juice on the former champ. I respect this price because I can't envision Calvillo owning enough athleticism to deal with Andrade's diversified skillset.

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega

UFC Featherweight Championship Bout

Saturday, September 25, 2021 - 11:05 PM EDT at T-Mobile Arena

Alexander Volkanovski (22-1-0) could possibly be the most underrated UFC champion who's currently active, boasting a 19-fight win streak and consecutive wins against one of the promotion most formidable strikers in Max Holloway deserves more respect than what's being shown.

The Australian native is the ideal champion; in my opinion, he doesn't excel in one particular area of the fight game; he owns a well-rounded set of skills that aren't easy to overcome. Brian Ortega (15-1-0) made his name submitting opponents left, right, and center.

However, his rise towards championship opportunities arose from a beautifully timed uppercut and TKO stoppage over the former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Ortega will jump into his second chance at claiming the gold this weekend after Max Holloway brutalized him in his original championship opportunity.

UFC Fight Prediction

Defeating "The Korean Zombie" was an excellent look for Ortega, but I refuse to give him a unique advantage against the champion. Whether Volkanovski is on the backfoot or under pressure, he's going to provide combinations or counter strikes in abundance. He shows beautiful cage control when cutting his opponents' angles and can circle away from his opponents' power.

Leg kicks are one of his primary weapons, and I envision this attack becoming a problem for Ortega, who failed to check these strikes during his previous bout. Volkanovski is a chess player inside the cage, and I believe he'll be calling checkmate throughout the twenty-five-minute main event.
