Many of the favorites are still alive as Euro 2024 rolls into the quarterfinals in Germany. The Quarterfinals begin Friday, with host Germany playing Spain, and Portugal taking on France.

I have France winning their first European Championship since 2000, beating hosts Germany in the final. While I don’t think Germany are the powerhouse they once were, I feel their raucous home supporters will galvanize the collective, propelling them to the final.

The hosts’ biggest challenge should come in the quarterfinals against Spain. While a gargantuan test, Germany should prevail, albeit narrowly. They have made it to the final four in each of the three tournaments they've hosted, winning the 1974 World Cup, reaching the semifinals at Euro 1988, and finishing third at the 2006 World Cup.

England were the last host nation to enjoy success on their home pitch, making it to the final of Euro 2020. That should provide the blueprint for Germany to mirror. France may be on another collision course with England, this time potentially in the semifinals as opposed to the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup.

The Three Lions don’t look sharp defensively, which is why I’m giving Les Bleus the slight advantage.
