TL;DR: My quick summary of the Polymarket promo code offer
The Polymarket promo code offer is as simple as it gets. Polymarket is one of the few prediction market operators offering a welcome bonus without a minimum trading requirement. In my eyes, that's a huge plus:
- I created my account and entered the promo code SBR when prompted.
- I deposited $10 via my Bitcoin wallet.
- Polymarket instantly added $50 in bonus funds to my account — no trading required.
- I used my $50 in Bonus Funds to trade on the new EPL season.
- $25 on Arsenal to beat Coventry, and $25 on Hull to beat Manchester United.
- Arsenal won easily, and Hull pulled off the upset against United at home.
- I now had about $70 in my account: the original $10, plus $60 in cash from using the Bonus Funds to make trades.
Full Polymarket promo code details: Legal, low risk, & easy to claim
I've spent more than 30 hours using Polymarket. I've thoroughly tested the platform by making deposits and withdrawals, collecting the $50 welcome bonus, and executing dozens of trades across various markets. If you've never used a prediction market before, Polymarket is a great way to get started, with a generous welcome offer that doesn't bog you down with complex fine print.
Polymarket promo code offer overview: No trading required
It's hard to find a much better welcome bonus than Polymarket's. Even though the bonus total is only $50, there is very little risk in actually claiming it. I simply funded my account with the $10 minimum, and BOOM, the bonus hit my account almost instantly.

Polymarket promo code terms and conditions: Easy to understand
I didn't run into any unexpected hurdles when I signed up for Polymarket. It was all very straightforward, which I definitely appreciated compared to some competing brands that make it needlessly complicated to collect a bonus. Still, here are the basic terms and conditions you need to know:
- All players in the United States are eligible to use promo code SBR.
- I had to deposit $10, but I didn't have to trade any of it to receive the $50 trading bonus.
- I needed to enter my personal information, such as my date of birth, phone number, and email address, to complete registration.
- The $50 bonus can't be withdrawn as cash or crypto. You must make trades with it.
- I was able to withdraw the profits made from trading my $50 worth of bonus funds.
- There is no expiration date for our promo code.
Best Polymarket promo code trading strategy: Start with markets you know
Polymarket has thousands of markets. Maybe even tens or hundreds of thousands, to be honest. While the massive amount of choice is great, it can be a bit overwhelming when you're new to the platform.
I recommend making your first few trades in a market you are already familiar with, whether it's a sports league like the NFL or MLB, or a topic like finance or tech. My point is, there's no reason to take a wild stab in the dark.
For example, I started by making trades on English Premier League soccer games, since it's my favorite sport and one I follow closely. I picked one heavy favorite (Arsenal, last season's champion) and one underdog (Hull, because I still don't believe Manchester United has it all figured out). Both trades resolved in my favor, giving me some profits to use for future picks.
Polymarket promo code final grade: 4.9/5.0
At the end of the day, I give the Polymarket welcome promo an almost perfect score: 4.9 out of 5.0. Here's a quick summary of why I scored it so high:
- No trading requirements; only $10 deposit needed.
- No market or price restrictions.
- Ease of registering, an either the desktop site or mobile app.
- How quickly the bonus hit my account.
- A simple 1x playthrough on bonus funds before I could withdraw.
Simply put, it's a great bonus, perfect for beginners. Experienced traders or those with larger bankrolls may scoff at the $50 value. Truth be told, this lower bonus total is the only factor keeping me from giving Polymarket a perfect 5 out of 5. If this bonus were raised to the $100 range, it would be just about perfect.
Comparing the Polymarket bonus to other top promos
Polymarket is hardly the only game (prediction market) in town (online). There are dozens of others, both big and small, with their own welcome bonuses. Here's a quick glance at the offers that I think are among the best of the best:
| Kalshi 🔥 | Novig 🪙 | ProphetX ✖️ | Underdog 🐶 | Gemini | |

Polymarket promo vs. Kalshi promo
Polymarket and Kalshi are generally neck-and-neck as the two largest, most popular prediction markets. When it comes to their respective welcome bonuses, each has strong selling points.
- The Kalshi bonus is not quite as high Polymarket's, at $35 in bonus funds.
- The Kalshi bonus requires $25 in trading within seven days before you can collect it.
- Polymarket's bonus has no trading requirement, only a $10 deposit.
- Both bonuses come with a 1x playthrough requirement and are easy to collect on the Kalshi and Polymarket mobile apps.
Other options
Prediction markets are exploding in popularity right now, so there are plenty of options to choose from, including the Onyx promo code. Five more of my favorites include:
- Novig Promo Code - Use SBRBONUS to get up to $25 in Trade Credits.
- Moon Promo Code - Get up to 3.5% in Rake Back with code SBR.
- Plus500 Promo Code - Use code SBRBONUS to get a $20 bonus after trading $10+.
- FanDuel Predicts Promo Code - Get up to $100 in Prediction Bonuses by trading $1 or more for five consecutive days.
- Crypto.com Promo Code - Get up to $50 in sign-up bonuses using the Crypto.com referral program.
Here’s how I claimed the Polymarket promo code offer
I was able to claim the Polymarket welcome promo in less than ten minutes. It was really that simple, especially since I didn't have to worry about making an actual prediction before claiming it. Knowing how seamless the whole process is, I can definitely say that Polymarket has one of the best prediction market promos.
1. Register and enter promo code
To register, I downloaded the Polymarket app on my iPhone. You can also visit the official site on your browser to sign up. When signing up via the mobile app, I was given the option to register through Google or Apple. I chose Google and signed up with my email. It then asked me for a code, and I entered the Polymarket promo code SBR.
2. Link your crypto wallet
You can also register by linking your email address or crypto wallet. Trust Wallet, MetaMask, and Phantom are among the available options. I registered using my email, though, and found the whole process flawless.
3. Identity verification
I had to provide some basic personal information, but it wasn't anything unexpected. Polymarket must undergo Know Your Customer (KYC) checks to verify new users' identities. You may have to complete an email or SMS verification, too.
4. Deposit
While I chose to fund my account with my bank account, you can also choose to fund your account with crypto for unlimited deposits or a debit card. Debit cards and direct bank transfers have a $50,000 daily limit.
To deposit from my bank account, I had to link my with Aeropay. Once I did that, I was able to deposit money on Polymarket quickly. If you choose to deposit with crypto, a wallet address will be provided to you for token transfer.
Remember, to earn the $50 trading bonus, you must deposit $10 or more.
5. Make a prediction
The homepage has all the trending markets, plus tabs for various sports, politics, tech, crypto, culture, and more. Exploring the platform was super simple, and I never had any trouble finding the market I wanted. With my bonus funds, I traded on the opening weekend of the English Premier League, going 2-0 on my picks.
With NFL season right around the corner, I recommend Polymarket as one of the best NFL prediction market sites.
6. Withdraw
To cash out, I went to my Portfolio and selected Withdraw. After entering the amount I wanted to withdraw, I selected my preferred withdrawal method, pasted my crypto wallet address, and then confirmed the transaction. My money arrived within minutes, making Polymarket one of the fastest withdrawal experiences I've ever had.
Trending markets on Polymarket
For me, one of the highlights of Polymarket is how many markets are available for the biggest events in the world. Whether it's the new NFL season, the upcoming U.S. Midterm Elections, or awards shows like the Oscars or Grammys, Polymarket has a little something for everyone.
Trending markets
Polymarket has a special "Trending" section where it displays markets that have attracted high volume recently. Here are some of the current trends:

Polymarket MLB odds
The Los Angeles Dodgers are still favored to win a third straight World Series, and it's no wonder why. A billion dollars' worth of talent goes a long way towards winning baseball games. However, the high-powered (and high-priced) Dodgers have scuffled lately, seeing the price on the Brewers and Yankees to slowly creep up.

What is Polymarket?
Polymarket is a centralized designated contract market (DCM), regulated by the CFTC in the United States. To put it simply, it's a financial trading market where you can buy Yes or No contracts that resolve into a financial win or a loss, based on a real-world outcome.
Unlike betting against the house, as you would with a sportsbook, the best sports prediction sites pair your picks with another user willing to take the opposite side. As users buy and sell, the market price of the event adjusts accordingly.
In this regard, it's very similar to stock prices. If there's a sudden run on Apple stock, the price skyrockets. If investors sell a large number of shares in a short period, the market assumes Apple is less valuable than before, and the stock price drops.
How does Polymarket work?
On a prediction market, the same thing happens. You can buy 'Yes' on "Los Angeles Dodgers to win the 2026 World Series" at $0.31 per contract. As the Dodgers win games and get closer to securing the NL West title and a playoff berth, the price will increase accordingly, which is great for anyone who got in early and wants to sell their position. For example, the most current price for the Dodgers to win the World Series is $0.38, meaning anyone who bought at a lower price could sell now for a small profit.
Unlike sportsbooks, which typically force users to wait it out and either win or lose a bet, prediction market platforms allow users to enter and exit positions on prediction markets whenever they feel the market prices will benefit them. I found that the only downside to entering or exiting frequently is that every trade comes with a small fee that can eat into profits.
Prediction markets cover a huge variety of topics and are not limited to sports. As I've already stated, Polymarket has markets for sports, politics, tech, culture, finance, the economy, entertainment, and even the weather.
How to invite your friends with a Polymarket referral code
It's important to note that I'm using "Polymarket promo code" and "Polymarket referral code" interchangeably. This means that SBR can be used as a referral code to claim the $50 welcome bonus.
Polymarket referral code vs. Polymarket promo code
The reason I use these terms interchangeably is that getting an actual referral code from Polymarket is extremely difficult.
While there is a separate Polymarket referral bonus, you need to surpass $10,000 in trading volume before you can request a referral link to share with your friends. If your friends use your link to sign up (within 30 days), you qualify for a referral bonus.
For the average trader, that could take a while. If you do achieve this status, you can earn 10% of all fees from direct referrals and 5% of fees from indirect referrals. Unfortunately, these commissions only apply for the first 30 days after your referred user signs up with Polymarket or until they reach Platinum tier (whichever comes first).
Let's look at the key similarities and differences:
| Polymarket promo code | Polymarket referral program | |
|---|---|---|
| Bonus amount | Deposit $10, Get $50 | 10% of fees from direct referrals; 5% of indirect referrals |
| Sign up method | SBR | Apply via Polymarket |
| Where to find | Promo code on this page | Polymarket account settings |
| When to use | When making your account | Send your referral code to friends |
| Requirements | New users only, min. $10 deposit | Much have $10K+ in trade volume |
| Claim limit | One welcome bonus per account, one account per person | Subject to some caps as determined by Polymarket |
| Reward expiry | Bonus funds expire after seven days | No expiration on referring friends |
Is Polymarket legal?
After being acquired by QCEX, a CFTC-licensed company, Polymarket is once again legal in the United States. In fact, residents of all 50 states + DC have full access to the platform, with Nevada being the lone exception. This means that Polymarket is available in states such as California, Texas, and Georgia, where sports betting is not currently legal.
The CFTC continues to face legal challenges regarding its jurisdiction over prediction markets, particularly in connection with sports event contracts. After all, betting $20 on the Dodgers to win the World Series doesn't feel that different from buying $20 worth of event contracts from Polymarket with the same outcome.
However, it seems it will take months (if not years) for these legal battles to be sorted out. In the meantime, prediction market operators have scored some early legal victories, keeping them up and running in most states.
| Polymarket legal states | ||
|---|---|---|
| Alabama | Alaska | Arizona |
| Arkansas | California | Colorado |
| Connecticut | Delaware | Florida |
| Georgia | Hawaii | Idaho |
| Illinois | Indiana | Iowa |
| Kansas | Kentucky | Louisiana |
| Maine | Maryland | Massachusetts |
| Michigan | Minnesota | Mississippi |
| Missouri | Montana | Nebraska |
| New Hampshire | New Jersey | New Mexico |
| New York | North Carolina | North Dakota |
| Ohio | Oklahoma | Oregon |
| Pennsylvania | Rhode Island | South Carolina |
| South Dakota | Tennessee | Texas |
| Utah | Vermont | Virginia |
| Washington | Washington, DC | West Virginia |
| Wisconsin | Wyoming |
Polymarket is fully regulated by the CFTC. As a result, it is required to meet certain security standards, including the following:
- Designated Contract Market: Polymarket is a licensed DCM via QCX LLC, meaning it has been endorsed by the CFTC to operate a prediction market.
- Blockchain technology: Polymarket uses non-custodial fund architecture on the Polygon blockchain, meaning your funds are never actually held by Polymarket itself.
- Smart Contract Audits: Polymarket's underlying contracts are audited by firms like Quantstamp and ChainSecurity to ensure compliance, fairness, and user safety.
My complete Polymarket review: Incredible market depth
After over 20 hours on Polymarket, I put together this review covering the platform's key features, including available markets, payment methods, and more. As part of my testing, I deposited $10, made some initial trades, and claimed the welcome bonus. I also went through the withdrawal process to see if there would be any snags (there were not).
Now that I'm well-versed in all things Polymarket, let's go over the pros, cons, and everything else:
Polymarket website and mobile app: Best in class
Whether I was using the Polymarket mobile app or the dedicated desktop site, my reaction was the same: this platform is amazing. Markets are cleanly organized, and each market's percentage changes are displayed clearly. On the Polymarket iOS app, I quickly navigated to the EPL markets and made my predictions with ease.
That being said, the desktop version is arguably better for serious traders. It shows more information, offers a host of extra settings and filters to tinker with, and makes locking in your picks simple and straightforward.

Polymarket pros and cons: crypto focused, with plenty of markets
Pros ✅
- Unique and engaging prediction style: Most predictions boil down to a binary option: Yes or No (or sometimes one option vs. another).
- Numerous sports markets, including esports: Polymarket has markets on almost everything, including a huge variety of sporting events.
- Wide variety of non-sports markets: If you don't trade on sports, Polymarket still has thousands of markets in finance, tech, politics, weather, culture, and more.
- Low minimum purchase prices: Start trading for as low as just a few dollars.
- Transparency and blockchain backing: Your funds are held safely and securely on the blockchain.
Cons ❌
- Market volatility, especially during critical events: If you're trading events unfolding in real time, volatility can get crazy. Watch for "high slippage" in your pricing to avoid submitting a trade at the wrong price.
- Lack of bonuses for existing users: The Polymarket welcome bonus is great, but you won't find much else in terms of bonuses once you've claimed it.
Polymarket trade options: More than enough
It boils down to this: if you can't trade on it at Polymarket, you probably can't trade on it anywhere else either. The markets seem to scroll infinitely, even if most picks still come down to choosing YES or NO.
When it comes to sports, and especially the NFL, Polymarket has you covered with all your standard picks, plus dozens of extra prop choices. You can now build combo predictions, which mimic the classic parlay or same-game parlay option that sportsbooks offer.
Polymarket sports to trade on: NFL, MLB, soccer, and more
When I navigate to the 'Sports' section on Polymarket, I am spoiled for choice. There are more than 25 different categories, including all the major sports leagues you expect to see, plus niche markets like chess, poker, lacrosse, pickleball, volleyball, darts, or table tennis.
If you're a soccer fan, you're in luck. Polymarket lists games from more than 100 different leagues and competitions from around the world. The major European leagues are all covered, plus MLS, Champions League, and domestic cup competitions. You'll also find markets for less popular leagues, such as the Eredivisie, Scottish Premier League, Saudi Pro League, Liga MX, and the K League 1.
Polymarket culture markets to trade on: Tech, finance, culture, & more
Polymarket isn't just sports. In fact, the sheer amount of non-sports markets it offers absolutely dwarfs everything else. With more than a dozen other market categories, each broken down into multiple sub-categories, you can trade on almost anything at Polymarket.
The most popular markets tend to be politics and elections, such as predicting the outcomes of the 2026 U.S. Midterms or who will be the Democratic Presidential nominee for 2028.
There are also markets for movies (box office receipts or Rotten Tomatoes score), weather (highest temperature in [city] on [date]), or tech (Will Apple release a foldable iPhone by when?).
Here's just a few of the many intriguing culture markets available on Polymarket as of September 15, 2026:
| Market | Prediction |
|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto VI launch postponed again? | Yes / No |
| Next James Bond actor? | Jack Lowden / Jack Barton |
| Super Bowl halftime performer | Justin Bieber / Dua Lipa |
| U.S. Midterms: Balance of Power | Dems Sweep / R Senate, D House |
| SpaceX Starship Flight Test 14 by... ? | October 31 / September 26 |
| Which characters will appear in Avengers: Doomsday? | Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) / Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) / Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) |
| Best Picture Oscar | The Odyssey / Dune: Part Three |
| Largest company end of 2026? | NVIDIA / Apple / Alphabet / Microsoft |
Polymarket Combos: A good start
Any seasoned sports bettor knows that parlays (both regular and the same-game variety) have dominated the marketing in recent years. These bets combine multiple picks into a single wager, where the payout is higher if you win, but the risk increases because you need to have every leg of your parlay be correct.
Polymarket has its own version of this, called Combos. A Combo is very similar to a parlay, letting you stack multiple predictions into a single trade. If all of your predictions turn out correct, your profits can multiply higher. However, if even one prediction in your Combo fails, the entire Combo goes up in smoke too.
Right now, Polymarket only offers Combos on a select number of markets. The good news is that they are almost all on sports. The bad news is that this feature still feels new and somewhat limited.
Still, I was able to build the following Combo for the opening NFL game in just a couple of minutes:
- Patriots Moneyline (38%)
- Game Total Over 44.5 Points (50%)
- Jadarian Price: Anytime TD Scorer (42%)
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba: Anytime TD Scorer (40%)
This Combo calculated out a 2.47x payout, meaning my $10 trade will pay $34.75 if it hits.
Polymarket Perps: A new way to trade
Polymarket recently introduced Perps, a feature that lets you trade on continuous price movements of certain markets like cryptocurrencies, stocks, commodities, and financial indexes.
Unlike traditional Polymarket trades, which resolve at the conclusion of a certain event or date, perps can remain open indefinitely. Traders can increase the leverage of their Perps up to 20x and speculate on Long or Short positions
You can close your Perp position at any time, locking profits or cutting your losses.
Can you short on Polymarket?
Yes, you can take a short position on certain markets with Polymarket Perps. Unlike traditional stock market shorting, you never have to buy or sell any actual shares. Instead, you can simply buy "SHORT" on a certain asset on Polymarket Perps. If the market price of that asset drops, you can close your position for a leveraged profit.
Here's what the Polymarket Perps page looks like on desktop:
Polymarket Squads
Polymarket recently debuted a new feature called Squads. Now, you can start your own Squad and invite your friends to join it. It's like a big group chat, but focuses on which trades are being made by Squad members. It easily allows for group members to hit 'Buy' and make same trades as their buddies.
One of the best parts of Squads is how shareable is it. You can screenshot your Squad chat and post it on your socials, alongside an invite link. You can use this to grow your Squad and expand your trading expertise with new members.
Polymarket trading odds and fees: Mostly average
As with any financial product, I really only have two goals when trading on Polymarket: maximize profits and minimize losses. The two factors that will have the largest impact on my bankroll are percentage odds and trading fees.
Let's go over each of them:
Trading odds
Trading odds (or percentage chance) are the likelihood of something happening. A simple example is that the Dallas Cowboys are 61% likely to beat the Giants this weekend, according to current market pricing.
With Dallas as a slight favorite, buying $20 worth of contracts that the Cowboys will win would result in only $12.15 in actual profit.
At another prediction market, I see the Cowboys at 59%, which would bump my profit up to $12.41 on the same pick. I can also compare these numbers to a traditional sportsbook, where Dallas is -160 and a $20 wager would produce $12.50 in profit (the highest of the three options).
I realize the difference here is measured in mere cents, but I always recommend shopping around for the best price on anything you're going to predict. If Polymarket has the best price, then that's great. And if it doesn't, don't be afraid to take your business elsewhere.
Trading fees
Polymarket uses the following formula to determine fees: Θ × C × p × (1 − p).
Basically, this means takers pay the most in fees around the 50-cent mark. When you make trades closer to the extreme ends of $0.01 or $0.99, the fees are lower.
This formula may seem complicated, but it actually produces some of the fairest fees of any prediction market app. For example, I've found that Polymarket tends to have slightly lower fees than Kalshi.
Polymarket customer support: Responsive & smart
Live Chat is available 24/7, and players who join the Discord server can click #open-a-ticket from the Support sidebar.

Polymarket payment methods: Great for crypto users
I'm not the most crypto-savvy person, but I still found funding my account and withdrawing winnings to be simple. If you're crypto-savvy, you'll have an even easier time.
There are fiat options available for depositing, while withdrawing is as simple as pasting a wallet address that supports the Polygon network.
Polymarket doesn’t impose extra costs for deposits and withdrawals, but you can expect gas fees depending on the network. That said, an April 2026 update improved fee collection and distribution while lowering gas costs.
The available payment options include:
- Deposits: Crypto (USDC, ETH, USDT, POL, BNB, ARB, and SOL), Visa, Mastercard, and virtual fiat accounts
- Withdrawals: Crypto only (Polygon supported address)
SBR Expert Tip 💡
Polymarket supports 20+ cryptocurrencies, making it a natural choice for any trader already heavily invested in various crypto tokens.
Banking fees
Polymarket won't charge you extra fees for depositing or withdrawals, but it's always smart to double check with your bank or credit card company. Some financial products or account types could charge you extra fees to sending money to and from prediction markets.
How I trade on popular Polymarket markets
I've already detailed how I traded on English Premier League games and claimed the Polymarket sign-up bonus. However, there are so many more markets to explore beyond sports. I can predict upcoming elections, the weather in New York City, or even whether Ethereum's price will go up or down in the next hour.
How I trade on Polymarket political markets
Polymarket has a whole section dedicated to Politics, ranging from the U.S. Midterms, important mayoral races in major cities, and various international elections.
Here are a handful of political markets that caught my eye on Polymarket this week:
- Presidential Election Winner 2028: JD Vance / Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez / Jon Ossoff
- Which party will win the Senate in 2026? Democrats / Republicans
- Winner of Brazil Presidential Election? Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva / Flávio Bolsonaro / Renan Santos
Here's a snapshot of what the Politics section looks like on Polymarket's desktop site:
How I trade on the weather
Trading on the weather on Polymarket is quite simple. I navigated to the 'Weather' section and could choose from a variety of subcategories, such as Temperature, Precipitation, Drought, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Pandemics.
Some of those are a little morbid for my taste, since I don't enjoy predicting on things that could cause people suffering. Regardless, there are plenty of simple weather picks that can be made:
- Where will it rain on Sept. 9? New York City / Los Angeles / Chicago / Houston
- Highest temperature in Dallas on Sept. 9? 96-97F / 98-99F / 100-101F / 102-103F
- Precipitation in New York City in September? < 2" / 2-3" / 3-4" / 4-5" / 5-6"
I'm no meteorologist, but sometimes it's fun to make an out-of-the-box prediction. I opted to predict the amount of rainfall in NYC this month. The market was pretty evenly split, with multiple rain levels trading in the $0.20 to $0.25 range. In the end, I bought $10 worth of contracts for "4-5 inches of precipitation in New York City" this month.
How I trade on the value of Ethereum
I can trade on the value of popular cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, in multiple ways. The simplest way is to buy a contract that pays out if "Ethereum hits above $X,XXX on a certain day." For example, I can currently buy "Ethereum above $2,400 on Sept. 11" for $0.81 per contract.
In the end, I decided to buy $10 worth of contracts for "What price will Ethereum hit in September 2026?" and bought YES at $2,600. The coin spiked from around $1,850 to $2,500 in late August. It's been hovering in the mid-$2,400 range lately, so I'm hoping it will creep up a little higher before the end of the month.
The other way to trade on crypto is to use Polymarket Perps. I can open an ongoing Long or Short position against the value of Ethereum, monitor the price as it goes up and down, and close my position at any time. The screenshot below shows this option.
Why Polymarket is different from traditional sportsbooks
Prediction markets are not sportsbooks, and sportsbooks are not prediction markets. It's an important distinction, both legally and in how you interact with them.
Despite the similarities, you should know why Polymarket is different from a traditional sports betting site.
Polymarket
- Regulated federally by the CFTC.
- Trade on event contracts where prices are set by the free market.
- You do not hold positions against Polymarket. Other users buy opposing contracts.
- No built-in margins; Polymarket charges fees on every trade.
- Can sell your positions at any time (assuming a buyer is available).
Traditional sportsbooks
- Regulated by individual state gaming authorities (ie, a Lottery and Gaming Commission).
- Odds set by the House, with built-in margins. No additional fees.
- Bets are typically locked in until the conclusion of a game/event.
Exiting positions early
One of my favorite features of Polymarket is that I can exit my position at any time. This is similar to an "Early Cash Out" feature at sportsbooks, with one notable exception: Polymarket never turns the option off.
If my prediction is looking good with just a few minutes left on the clock, I can go ahead and sell my contracts for profit. I wouldn't receive the full payout that I would get from letting my contracts ride until the end of the event, but sometimes securing a win is important.
On a sportsbook, I can only cash out a bet early if the system offers it. And often, the book doesn't bother to offer Early Cash Outs unless your bet is likely to win and it will save them some money. In other words, the deal is almost never in my favor.
Regulation and legal status
Finally, the legal status of each platform is an important different. Sportsbooks are regulated on a state-by-state basis, which is why online sports betting is wide available in some states and outright banned in others.
However, prediction markets are financial products. That means the CFTC, a federal agency that oversees commodities and futures trading, regulates them. Under current legal arguments, this federal stamp of approval trumps state law, which is why prediction markets are available in Texas and California (for example), where traditional sportsbooks are still banned.
The legal battles are far from over, though, as several states have challenged this current interpretation of the laws. Some experts think the case will reach the U.S. Supreme Court at some point in 2027.
Why Polymarket is different from stock and crypto trading
Although Polymarket suggests its more akin to a stock trading app than a standard betting platform, that's not entirely true either. Trading on Polymarket only includes event contracts, which are not the same as actually owning shares of a publicly traded company.
Even though I can trade on the future price of stocks like Tesla, Meta, or Apple, I am never actually buying real stock in these companies. Polymarket only lets me predict what I think the future holds and receive a payout if I'm right.
In other words, buying $1,000 worth of Bitcoin is not the same as using Polymarket to trade $1,000 that the price of Bitcoin will go up before the end of the day.
Does Polymarket have promos for existing users?
Unfortunately, Polymarket doesn't have traditional bonuses for existing users like those found at the best U.S. betting sites. However, it does offer a Liquidity Rewards program that pays daily for those who place limit orders to help keep the market active and balanced.
After trying out this rewards program, here are some basic rules that I believe you should take note of:
- The closer your orders are to the market's average price, the more you are eligible to earn.
- The reward amount depends on how helpful your orders are in terms of size and pricing, compared to others.
- Payments are issued daily. You can check your current status in the program by visiting the Polymarket Rewards page.
- The minimum reward payout is $1, and anything below that will not be paid out.
- Rewards are paid out automatically at midnight UTC.
Responsible trading on Polymarket
Whether you consider it financial trading or betting, one thing is certain: there is a very real risk of losing money when you speculate on the unknown outcomes of future events. If you're not careful, you could find yourself in over your head and chasing losses. That's a bad place to be.
Polymarket is only available to legal adults aged 18 or older. On top of that, it has multiple safe trading tools that you can make use of, including deposit and trading limits or cool off periods.
If you become concerned about your spending on Polymarket, please contact the National Council on Problem Gambling at NCPgambling.org or call its toll-free helpline at 1-800-MYRESET or 1-800-GAMBLER.
