Toronto’s top prospect is expected to make his NHL debut this afternoon in place of the injured Steven Lorentz, and the Leafs hope he can provide a spark to the struggling Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies on the top line.

Matthews and Knies have yet to score this season at 5-on-5 while playing with Matias Maccelli, who is likely to be bumped down to the second line in favor of Cowan. I’m willing to bet that Cowan, who recorded 39 points in just 17 Ontario Hockey League playoff games last spring, gets the star duo going.

You should be able to find plus money on Cowan Over 0.5 points at any of the top NHL sportsbooks. FanDuel’s +112 price offers the best value, implying a 47.17% probability with the chance to profit $11.20 on a $10 bet.

⬆️  William Nylander Over 2.5 shots (-125) ⭐⭐⭐

Maccelli’s demotion to Toronto’s second line could also be what it takes to unlock William Nylander, at least from a shots-on-goal perspective. Although Nylander is tied for the team lead in scoring with four points through two games, he’s attempted just one shot in that span, playing more of a setup man role alongside John Tavares and Bobby McMann.

Playing with Maccelli should lead to Nylander reverting his mindset to finishing, a role he’s played when averaging roughly three shots per game over the last three seasons.

Nylander Over 2.5 shots is juiced as high as -140 at FanDuel, but I found a -125 line at DraftKings. Those odds suggest a 55.56% chance we cash this ticket and an $8 profit on a $10 wager.

🔥 Alex DeBrincat anytime goal scorer (+210) ⭐⭐⭐

Red Wings star Alex DeBrincat is still seeking his first goal of the year, but it isn’t for lack of opportunities. The two-time 41-goal man has attempted 19 shots in the Red Wings’ first two games, including seven unblocked chances from medium danger areas per Moneypuck.

He’s second on the Red Wings in expected goals and should continue to generate chances playing alongside Patrick Kane, who has collected four points already this season.

It’s a matter of time before DeBrincat finishes off one of those chances, and the +210 odds at FanDuel make it worth a shot betting on him to do it Monday. A $10 bet can net you a $21 profit with an implied probability of 32.26%.
