Oilers vs. Lightning Prediction Tonight: Our Best Picks & Player Props for Feb. 25

Will the Edmonton Oilers improve in tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after a brief rotten spell? We think so.

The last month has not been kind to the Edmonton Oilers, who've lost five of their last seven games. We expect them to be much better in our Oilers vs. Lightning prediction for tonight's contest at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, Fla. (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+).

Edmonton, the Stanley Cup odds favorite, look to avoid suffering four straight defeats for the first time, while Tampa Bay is on the march, hoping to expand upon its season-best five-game win streak.

That win streak has the Lightning positioned between Toronto and Boston, whose meeting I dive into with my Maple Leafs vs. Bruins prediction.

🚨 Game pick: Under 6.5 goals (-115 via Betway) vs. Lightning ⭐⭐⭐
🚨 My best player prop pick: Evan Bouchard Over 2.5 shots (-120 via Betway) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

My best Oilers vs. Lightning pick & score prediction

I'm predicting the Oilers to win and avoid losing four in a row while ending the Lightning's five-game win streak.

🏒 Under 6.5 goals ⭐⭐⭐

As the Oilers have been dreadful in the last three games, this is a contrarian pick. Edmonton's defense has been leakier than the Titanic after the moment of impact. It's been gruesome for Oilers fans, watching their team concede 18 goals in the last three contests.

But that is precisely why I'm backing them to improve significantly against the high-flying Lightning. Knoblauch and the Oilers leadership group will be under no illusions: They cannot win a Stanley Cup by playing pond hockey. I expect them to overcompensate in Tampa on Tuesday, considerably heightening their defensive attention to detail.

Mistakes have killed the Oilers recently; this is another aspect of their game in which I expect palpable improvement.

Despite their recent offensive outburst, underpinned by scoring at least four goals in the last five games, six of the Lightning's last nine games had six or fewer goals.

The first game between these two teams ended 2-1 Oilers in Edmonton. While I don't expect goals to dry up that much, there should be just enough defensive improvement to see under 6.5 goals.

Best odds: -115 via Betway (bet $10 to win $8.70)

🎯 Final score prediction: Oilers 4, Lightning 2

This is a contrarian pick. I expect the Oilers to wake up from their recent slumber and win 4-2 against the Lightning.

Correct score odds: +1200 via Betway (bet $10 to win $120)

Best Oilers vs. Lightning player prop bet

💰 Evan Bouchard Over 2.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bouchard is a reliable shooting presence from the back end, hitting the Over on this prop in six of the previous nine games. He's been even more productive in enemy barns, firing at least three shots in eight of the past 10 away contests. In that stretch, Bouchard has averaged 4.7 per game.

While the Lightning are an excellent team at home, they don't suppress shots well, giving up 30.1 shots per contest, tied for the fifth-most with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Meanwhile, Edmonton has the second-most shots per tilt on the road (31.1).

Best odds: -120 via Betway (bet $10 to win $8.33)
