Max Brosmer gets the start for Minnesota against a Detroit team needing a win to keep its playoff hopes alive, and I explain how that affects my Lions vs. Vikings player props. Kickoff for this second of three NFL games on Christmas Day is set for 4:30 p.m. ET from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis (Netflix).
Detroit rose to a 7.5-point betting favorite when J.J. McCarthy was ruled out for Minnesota.
My NFL Week 17 predictions back arguably this game’s three brightest offensive stars, including a touchdown prop that pays +350.

Jared Goff longest pass completion Under 36.5 yards (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Minnesota entered last week’s game against the Giants allowing a league-low 2.5 plays per game of 20-plus yards. Its defense is the perfect foil to a Lions offense that ranks second in explosive play rate (12.8%).
Teams were passing against the Vikings 49.71% of the time (second-fewest leaguewide) prior to the Giants attempting just 13 passes total. Detroit should also be interested in getting its running game going after rushing for just 15 yards last week.

Justin Jefferson Over 61.5 receiving yards (-110) ⭐⭐⭐
Justin Jefferson has exceeded this projected total just once in the last five games. But he faces a Lions defense that he caught one of his two touchdowns against this season, and I expect a second straight solid performance from the star wideout.
Entering last week, Detroit had allowed the most passing yards per game over the previous six weeks, and it ranked third in yards per attempt allowed. Then it was torched for 266 passing yards by Aaron Rodgers, his second-highest total of the season.
Jahmyr Gibbs first touchdown scorer (+350) ⭐⭐
Jahmyr Gibbs couldn’t find any room to run last week, as the Lions averaged the fewest yards before contact leaguewide. But Minnesota entered last week facing the second-highest percentage of rush attempts, and its blitz-happy scheme should free up Gibbs on passing plays.
Minnesota didn't allow an offensive touchdown last week after entering with the second-lowest rate of scoring plays via touchdown allowed. But I cannot trust Max Brosmer to lead the Vikings on the first scoring drive, and i"m excited for these +350 odds on a player getting 67.74% implied odds (-210) to score an anytime touchdown.
