NFL Futures: Packers Are NFC Favorites With Rodgers' New Contract
Aaron Rodgers has reportedly signed a new four-year contract with the Green Bay Packers. How did Rodgers’ deal shift the NFL futures market?
The Packers reportedly signed the 38-year-old Rodgers to a four-year, $200-million contract on Tuesday. Prior to his announcement that he'll remain with the only NFL team he's played for, there were reports of Rodgers’ growing discontent, and retirement was also on the table along with a free-agency departure.
The reigning-to-back NFL MVP has passed for 85 touchdowns to just nine interceptions during the last two seasons. However, as great as he's been, the Packers lost in the divisional round this past season and the NFL title game the year before that.
But the market once again loves the Packers with Rodgers staying in Green Bay. Here's a look at the line moves and how the NFL futures market is affected by the Rodgers contract news.

Are The Packers Super Bowl Contenders?
The Packers have won 13 games in each of the last three seasons, losing twice in the NFC Championship Game. They have the offensive weapons to complement Rodgers, including running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Davante Adams, both among the best at their respective positions.
Green Bay placed the franchise tag on Adams, who was set to become a free agent this offseason. That offensive core alongside Rodgers - combined with the Packers being clear favorites in the NFC North - should keep the Packers as top contenders in the NFC, and the odds reflect as much as we look at the NFL futures market.

Packers' Odds Shift
Immediately following the NFL combine, the Packers were priced at +1500 at Caesars Sportsbook and +1400 at BetMGM. Within hours of the news that Rodgers is staying in Green Bay, those odds came down to +900 and +1000, respectively. Somewhat surprisingly, FanDuel Sportsbook had the Packers’ Super Bowl odds at +950 on Monday and at +1000 following Tuesday's news.
Recommendation: Rodgers returning to Green Bay gives the Packers a shot at another Super Bowl. However, they now have the shortest odds in the NFC at some sportsbooks. Though there may be some value on the Packers at +1000 or higher with Rodgers returning, there's a limit to that appeal in the NFL futures market.
The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers are both viable contenders, too, and they could offer more value in the aftermath of the Rodgers signing with the hype on Green Bay.
