As the dominoes continue to fall into place regarding Aaron Rodgers' next contract, the Green Bay Packers today placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Davante Adams.

The move allows the Packers to negotiate with Adams on a long-term deal but eliminate the threat of losing him due to the tag.

As it stands, the franchise tag will account for $20.1 million against the Packers' salary cap once free agency begins.

There will be an urgency to secure Adams' new deal sooner rather than later. The Packers are already $27.5 million of their 2022 projected camp - further complicating things if they cannot come to terms with Adams before free agency opens.

However, there's little cause for concern, as Adams will want the security of a long-term deal, and the Packers cannot stay under the cap if the tag stays applied - though unlikely he would agree to play under the tag.

Adams is coming off a fantastic season that saw him break multiple franchise season records with 123 receptions and 1,553 receiving yards to pair with 11-touchdowns.

With Rodgers confirming he's coming back, and Adams likely to stay, the Packers have moved to +1000 odds to win the Super Bowl next season at DraftKings Sportsbook.
