Best Over/Under Bets for NFL Week 5: The Under Continues to Reign Supreme

Taking the Under has been slightly more successful than banking on the Over in recent years, and that trend seems to be continuing. Here are our top Over/Under bets for the NFL in Week 5.

The Under has been successful just north of 50% of the time over the last eight NFL seasons, whereas the Over has hit around 48%. That disparity has become a lot more drastic through four weeks in 2022, with the Under cashing 74 times compared to 52 for the Over. Will that trend continue in Week 5?

Giants-Packers Under 41 (-110)

This market hasn't moved from its current total of 41 since opening on Tuesday afternoon. The Over has hit just once in a game involving the New York Giants or the Green Bay Packers in 2022. Neither squad has been generating much offense, averaging around 19 points per game.

The two defenses involved here are stifling opposing offenses too, as the Giants are only allowing 17.8 points per game, and the Packers are giving up 17.3. A low-scoring contest falling below this total is inevitable.

49ers-Panthers Under 38.5 (-110)

On Tuesday afternoon, this game opened a point higher than its current total of 38.5. The line is certainly low, but not without reason as both the San Francisco 49ers and the Carolina Panthers have predominantly been in low-scoring games in 2022, going a combined 1-7 to the Over.

The 49ers' defense has been suffocating too. San Francisco leads the league while allowing only 11.5 points. The Panthers’ defense hasn’t been nearly as solid, but it still ranks within the top half of the league in points allowed per game (14th at 21.3 points).

Lions-Patriots Over 45.5 (-109)

If you're looking to bet the Over, it's best to focus on the Lions-Patriots clash. The oddsmakers seem to agree, as this line has gone up 1.5 points since opening.

These two squads have compiled a 6-2 record to the Over, with the Lions a perfect 4-0. New England’s offense may not be as high-flying as Detroit’s unit in 2022, but the Lions are also giving up a league-high 35.3 points per game.

This contest comes with all the makings of a shootout, and the Over should cash.
