Sunday’s NBA Top Picks

Moneyline: Grizzlies (-140) ★★★★

The Memphis Grizzlies (11-8) snapped out of a mini-slump with a resounding 132-111 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. The performance came after Memphis had dropped two in a row and four of its last five games.

We like the Grizz to stay hot with a road victory against a New York Knicks squad that is just 9-10 on the season. New York lost three of its last four games, including a 132-129 overtime defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday.

This pick has more to do with the Grizzlies, who are coming off their most complete performance of the season. They connected on 18 3-pointers and supported it with a strong defensive showing. DraftKings has the best price on the moneyline, so we recommend going there to tail this pick.

Spread: Mavericks +6 (-107) ★★★★

We head to the final (and arguably the best) game of the night for our spread pick. Bettors will want to give some TV time to this cross-conference clash between the Mavericks and Bucks during a football Sunday.

Dallas (9-9) has lost three in a row and failed to cover the number in as many games. The Mavs are just 4-13-1 against the spread, which pales in comparison to the Bucks’ ATS clip of 11-7 and their overall record of 13-5.

But the spread is probably too large in a game that features MVP frontrunner Luka Doncic. The 23-year-old superstar is leading the league in scoring with an average of 33.4 points per game to go along with 8.9 rebounds and 8.2 assists per contest.

With other sportsbooks showing a 5.5-point spread, we recommend scooping up this 6-point line at PointsBet before it is too late.

Total: Pacers-Clippers Under 223 (-107) ★★★

There hasn’t been a better bet this NBA season than taking the Under in Los Angeles Clippers’ games. Sunday’s home meeting with the Indiana Pacers shouldn’t be an exception.

The Clippers, who are 11-9 straight up on the season, have had 15 of their games finish under the closing point total. Their 75% Under rate paces the league, with the Minnesota Timberwolves being No. 2 in that category at 63.2%.

Los Angeles has been dominant on the defensive end, ranking third in the league by giving up an average of 107.2 points per game. The Clippers are also last in scoring, averaging 106.1 points per contest, which certainly makes for a good Under recipe. Since most sportsbooks have a total of 222.5, PointsBet’s line of 223 is worth playing before tipoff.

Upset: Timberwolves (+105) ★★★

For those who haven’t been paying attention, bettors have been blessed with a distinct split regarding the Golden State Warriors this year. The defending champs are 9-1 at home, but are just 1-9 on the road, during a 10-10 start to the season.

Oddsmakers must have made a mistake, listing the Warriors as betting favorites in a road test with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. That’s the only explanation because the Timberwolves (10-9) should be favored at home.

Golden State is giving up an average of 117.5 points per game, a mark that ranks 28th out of 30 teams in the country. That doesn’t bode well against a Minnesota squad that has scored 223 total points over its last two outings. With this line hovering around even money at other shops, jump on the +105 offering at DraftKings for our upset pick.

Prop bet: Celtics to win first quarter and game (-120) ★★★★

Prop markets are rather limited at the time of this writing, but we recommend taking the first-quarter spread for the Boston Celtics. For now, the best bet following a similar angle is the -120 price for the Celtics to win the first quarter and game at home against the Washington Wizards. This prop is available under the first-quarter market on FanDuel.

This bet might seem a bit specific, but there is a reason for it. Not only are the Celtics the best team in the NBA right now with a 15-4 overall record, but they have done a good job of setting the tone this season.

Per this tweet from Tom Bassine, Boston has the second-highest net rating (16.7) in the first quarter. The Celtics rank third in the league in scoring with an average of 31.4 points in the opening period. In a game in which they are 7-point favorites, the Celtics should take care of business from start to finish on Sunday.
