Even though they're long shots by the WNBA championship odds, tonight's Los Angeles Sparks vs. Dallas Wings tilt is still plenty compelling. Tipoff is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ION) from College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

Neither of these teams have gotten off to the start they'd hoped for after investing heavily in star guards in the offseason. And defense has been the primary culprit.

Make no mistake: both of these clubs can put up points in a hurry. Through eight games, the Wings are fifth in offensive rating (102.6) and second in pace (98.63), and that comes even with Bueckers missing the last two games with a concussion.

The Sparks have been a tick less efficient on the offensive end but still feature legit star power with Kelsey Plum (22.9 PPG) and Dearica Hamby (17.6 PPG) ranking second and 11th, respectively, in points per game. They've helped L.A. score 80-plus points in four straight games and six of eight games thus far.

So what's been the issue? Sieve-like defense on the other end. Los Angeles ranks 10th in defensive rating (104.3), and Dallas has been even worse (107.1) through the first month of the season. That's the main reason why the Over has cashed in three of the last five for both of these teams.

Instead of predicting which side executes better late - which has been an issue for each squad - I'd rather bank on a free-flowing 40 minutes between these two teams.
