On Friday, a pair of MLB juggernauts clash when the New York Yankees host the Los Angeles Dodgers, and we're delving into the encounter with our Dodgers vs. Yankees player props based on the best MLB odds.

In various ways, the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are the King Kong and Godzilla of baseball. They'll try leaving New York unscathed when the beasts meet for a three-game set that starts at Yankee Stadium on Friday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET on Apple TV+.

The Yankees and Dodgers are first in their respective divisions. They occupy the top two spots in the World Series odds over a third of the way into the season. And the two best players on each team hold down the top two spots in the AL and NL in the MLB MVP odds. However, Juan Soto is suffering from a forearm injury and could miss Friday's game.

The Yankees enter on an eight-game winning streak, too. The Dodgers have sputtered a little lately, but they still boast the second-best record in the NL at 39-25.

Which bulldozing brute holds an edge?

Dodgers vs. Yankees  expert picks

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Over 5.5 strikeouts ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Yankees cause a whole lot of damage to baseballs, and anything that gets in the path of the soaring projectiles that come off their bats. They sit second in home runs leaguewide at 93, with a notable gap to the third-place team (which is of course the Dodgers at 82). The Yankees also lead MLB in OPS (.776), and they pace baseball in run differential (plus-118).

However, all of that power-hitting comes with a strikeout bill to pay. The Yankees aren't just a pure power-hitting team, but nonetheless they strike out a fair bit. They enter Friday with the 11th-most strikeouts leaguewide.

That of course sets up Cy Young odds contender Yoshinobu Yamamoto nicely. As does the potential absence of Soto, who's incredibly disciplined at the plate and is tied for second in walks. On the other side, two Yankees hitters rank among the top 20 in strikeouts (Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton).

They'll be facing an impressive rookie in Yamamoto who ranks sixth in the NL in K/9 (10.5). Yamamoto has also demonstrated quality command while ranking in the 86th percentile in walk percentage, according to Baseball Savant.

While the -156 odds here from FanDuel may not seem appetizing at first, that price offers value and is significantly better than the offerings from the rest of our best sportsbooks. DraftKings sits way down at -170, while Caesars is posting -174, and bet365 is at -165.

A $10 wager will result in a $16.41 payout, with an implied probability of 60.9%.

FanDuel is also offering series betting for this marquee three-game set, with the Yankees narrow favorites at -114, and the Dodgers at -106. That makes the Dodgers an intriguing play at mild value, as their pitching lines up to feature both of the team's Cy Young contenders, with Yamamoto on Friday night and Tyler Glasnow slated for Sunday.

Best odds: -156 via FanDuel

Shohei Ohtani Over 2.5 total bases ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Embracing at least slightly more risk and giving it a big ol' bear hug is required whenever you want to bet on Ohtani. Predictably, the standard Over on 1.5 total bases for him on Friday is sitting around -140 at most of our best sports betting sites, and as short -150 through FanDuel.

But that same book offers alternate total bases props, and Ohtani provides the ideal opportunity to be a little aggressive. Remember, we're talking about a baseball launcher who ranks fifth leaguewide in OPS (.973). Oh, and a slugger who further cemented his unicorn status (as if that was needed) with this bomb after adjusting to Paul Skenes' heat.

And now he gets to tee off against Cody Poteet, the Yankees' right-hander who's making only his third major-league start of the season as another spot-start outing until Gerrit Cole returns. He's been effective enough while allowing three earned runs over 11 innings.

But Poteet has also surrendered a home run in each of those appearances. And getting Ohtani out is a daunting task at any time, but especially as a righty. Ohtani is torching them to the tune of a 1.081 OPS, compared to .785 against lefties.

A $10 play at these +130 odds from FanDuel would result in a $23 profit if Ohtani records three-plus bases. The odds imply a 43.5% probability.

Best odds: +130 via FanDuel

Mookie Betts to score a run  ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Betts is the leadoff hitter for one of the most potent offenses in MLB. That alone is a significant reason why his odds to score a run on any night are short, which is the case on Friday through FanDuel at -170.

The -140 odds here through bet365 offer an appealing path to an easy profit by comparison for a player who is tied for seventh throughout all of baseball in runs scored (46). Betts has also been heating up lately while getting to the comfort of home base, scoring four times across his last four games.

The list of baseball boppers behind him that includes Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Teoscar Hernandez clearly helps. But Betts helps himself too while getting on base a whole lot. His .411 on-base percentage ranks fourth, and he's always giving himself an opportunity to reach with a 9.6 strikeout rate that ranks among the top 2% of MLB, and a 14.4 walk rate that puts him in the top 3%

A $10 bet at these -140 odds from bet365 would lead to a $17.14 payout if Betts scores, with an implied probability of 58.3%.

Best odds: -140 via bet365
