š° Best NRFI bets today (Tuesday, July 28)
Guardians vs. Reds NRFI (-110) - 1:40 p.m. ET
- Slade Cecconi (4.60 ERA) vs. Chase Burns (2.42 ERA)
- NRFI records: Guardians (64-43) vs. Reds (52-52)
You might think I'm playing this NRFI based on Burns' fantastic season, but it's truly Cecconi that put me over the top here. Across 53 plate appearances, the Reds own just a .217 xBA against him and are striking out at a 22% clip, including Elly De La Cruz (33% K rate) and Spencer Steer (22%). That'll work for us tonight. On the other side, Burns is coming off five shutout innings against the Mariners and has allowed just five earned runs across his last 16 innings. I'd price this one closer to -130 betting odds, so let's run with this type of value. Six simple outs, baby.
Braves vs. Mets NRFI (-155) - 7:10 p.m. ET
- Chris Sale (2.19 ERA) vs. Christian Scott (3.13 ERA)
- NRFI records: Braves (50-56) vs. Mets (53-54)
Just like our two-unit play, the obvious pitching choice isn't necessarily why I'm playing this NRFI. It's actually Scott that made me drop a unit here - he's striking this Braves team out at a 40% clip across 37 plate appearances, which includes limiting Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Drake Baldwin to a combined 0-for-12 mark. I'm actually more concerned with Sale here, with the Mets owning a .327 xBA against him across 107 at-bats. However, with his pedigree, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.
A NRFI (No Run First Inning) bet carries high variance, meaning success requires a disciplined, daily dive into the data. Before placing a wager, run through a strict checklist: analyze how the starting pitcher matches up against the top three hitters in the lineup, track underlying metrics like strikeout rates (K%) and expected batting averages (xBA), and review recent team-specific first-inning scoring trends. Because a single mistake or lucky hit can ruin the bet instantly, always use this daily routine to guide your wagers and scale your unit sizing accordingly to protect your bankroll.
