Stanford vs. Syracuse Early Picks, Predictions & Odds Week 4

The Stanford Cardinal make their ACC debut when they travel cross country to visit the Syracuse Orange, and Philip Wood makes an early prediction for Friday's tilt.

The Stanford Cardinal make their ACC debut with a trip to face the Syracuse Orange on Friday.

The Orange are favored by nearly double digits, as bettors take a look at early Stanford vs. Syracuse predictions and odds. Both teams enter this game following bye weeks. Before the bye, the Orange defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 31-28, while the Cardinal beat the Cal Poly Mustangs 41-7.

If Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord dissects the Cardinal secondary, this will be a blowout. But if the Cardinal secondary can keep him in check, QB Ashton Daniels will do enough offensively to keep the Cardinal in this game.

My early Stanford vs. Syracuse prediction: Syracuse -9.5

This spread is the same everywhere, so there’s no advantage to gain by betting at one of our best sports betting sites over another. Look for this number to briefly hit the key number at some point during the week. I doubt this will reach 10.5, but the Orange should see early support.

Last season, the Cardinal had the worst pass defense of all FBS teams. In their only game against an FBS opponent this season, they allowed 353 passing yards. The secondary is a mess, and it’s not going to get better any time soon.

I think McCord is going to light the defense up. He’s thrown for over 350 yards and four touchdowns in his first two games. Look for him to hit similar numbers on Friday while the Cardinal offense fails to keep up.

Moneyline

If you want to use the Orange as part of a parlay, make sure that parlay is at either DraftKings or FanDuel. These sportsbooks are priced at -310, while our other best sports betting apps are asking at least -350.

The Cardinal are an inferior opponent traveling all the way across the country for a primetime game. This is going to be ugly for them, and I don’t recommend wagering on their moneyline, no matter how juicy it is.

Spread

Our best sportsbooks have the same spread for the same price. I fully expect this number to hit 10, but I also think the Cardinal will see support once the spread hits double digits. Even right now, only 54% of bettors are backing the Orange to cover this spread. The number won’t move much, likely bouncing between 9 and 10 all week.

Over/Under

Seventy-one percent of wagers are backing the under. DraftKings has already moved the number from 57.5 to 57, and it’s just a matter of time before the other major sportsbooks do the same.

The Orange scored more than 30 points in each of their games, and they could do the same well on Friday. But will the Cardinal score enough to send this over? The answer is no, and the total will drop throughout the week to reflect that.
