College Football Player Props Week 9: Predictions, Picks for Saturday

After a week off, we're aiming for a strong finish to the regular season, starting with our college football player props based on the best NCAAF odds for Week 9.

My college football player props column has returned after taking Week 8 off to get engaged during a trip to Colorado. Here's to hoping we can cash even more player props together now that I'm a soon-to-be married old man. That makes me more wise than in previous weeks, right? 

In all seriousness, we're up 4.15 units with this weekly player props column. We continue to learn more about what works and what doesn't, but most importantly, we're having fun with some extra action on these college football games.

College football player props for Saturday Week 9

Nic Anderson Under 59.5 receiving yards (+100 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Big Noon Kickoff heads to Lawrence for a Big 12 matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners and Kansas Jayhawks. While both offenses are explosive, mother nature might impact Saturday's showdown, with cold and rainy conditions forecasted.

As such, Oklahoma's big-play freshman receiver Nic Anderson will struggle to make a huge impact in this one. Anderson has been incredibly efficient during 2023 while averaging 24.2 yards per reception. He's recorded 387 yards and eight touchdowns on just 16 catches, all while ranking fourth among receivers in offensive snaps, according to PFF.

The expected conditions and his recent performances set up a perfect opportunity to fade an inflated line for Anderson, who's coming off a five-catch, 105-yard performance against UCF. We project him to finish with roughly 45 yards, giving us plenty of cushion on this Under with +100 value.

SGP: Jonathon Brooks to record 100-plus rushing yards and anytime touchdown (+102 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's difficult to find much value on Texas running back Jonathon Brooks, who has certainly done his part in the effort to replace Bijan Robinson. His rushing line is set as high as 110.5 at most shops, while his touchdown price is -300 or richer.

That's why this same-game parlay is a better approach to betting on Brooks in a favorable matchup. BYU is surrendering 150.3 rushing yards per game, and the school now faces a running back who's recorded 99-plus yards on the ground in five straight contests. Brooks is averaging 142.2 rushing yards per matchup over his last five outings.

There could be value in shopping alternate markets based on our projections of 1.4 touchdowns and 120 rushing yards for Brooks, but there's a chance Texas turns to backup CJ Baxter a bit more in a potential blowout. So we'll settle for this same-game parlay as the best way of betting on Brooks.

Bo Nix to record 250-plus passing yards (+102 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix's passing line has been set disrespectfully low at 243.5 considering what he's done in 2023. We're so confident this mark is off that chasing more upside with a plus-money price on his alternate line of 250-plus passing yards via FanDuel is now the right play.

Facing Utah's formidable defense on the road is no easy task, but Nix has answered nearly every challenge thrown at him during his second season with the Ducks. The veteran signal-caller is averaging 298 passing yards per game in 2023, all while recording at least 250 yards in six of his seven outings. Nix threw for 287 yards during a 20-17 win over Utah in 2023 as well.

Our projections are much closer to his season average, but you can play it safe with a wager on his original passing line or this alternate market. Either way, Nix should deliver for us and the Ducks with College GameDay in attendance.

Taj Davis Over 48.5 receiving yards (-113 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

There's typically an opportunity to fade adjusted lines when a player is hot. But it doesn't seem like Cal receiver Taj Davis is getting the credit he deserves for his play lately, which is why we're betting on him to continue his recent form.

Davis turned seven catches into 93 yards and a score against Utah during his last game. He's now recorded at least five receptions in three straight contests, clearing this mark by a dozen yards each time. Davis is averaging 74 receiving yards per game during that span.

USC's defense isn't exactly a unit anyone should fear, so we expect Davis to remain a focal point of Cal's offensive attack in a potential catch-up game script. With a projection closer to 60 yards, we like taking this Over on Caesars' discounted line.

College football player props for Thursday Week 9

Garrett Shrader Over 32.5 rushing yards (-115 via DraftKings, bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ✖️

I'm addicted to rushing props for dual-threat quarterbacks, and it might actually be a problem. Syracuse QB Garrett Shrader has been responsible for some losing tickets of late when it comes to his rushing props, but I'm hopeful he'll bounce back in Week 9 after we both took a Week 8 bye.

Shrader has failed to clear this mark in three consecutive games, recording 42 total rushing yards against Clemson, North Carolina, and Florida. But he remains involved on the ground while logging 32 rushing attempts across the past three outings.

Virginia Tech's defense isn't quite as formidable as those three ACC foes, and the team ranks 126th out of 133 teams in PFF's run defensive grade. The Hokies rank 104th while surrendering an average of 4.7 yards per attempt. Schrader ran for 174 yards on 22 attempts during his last meeting against Virginia Tech in 2021.

The signal-caller told reporters this week he's feeling healthy after the bye. He also acknowledged the Syracuse offense opens up when he uses his legs. That's why we're projecting him to finish with more than 40 rushing yards in this one and are firing on this discounted rushing prop.

DraftKings and bet365 both offer -115 odds on Over 32.5 rushing yards, while the rest of our best sports betting apps have made the same line a bit richer to back Shrader's legs.
