North Carolina looks to win as an underdog when it heads to the Acrisure Bounce House to take on UCF, and I break down this nonconference matchup with my early North Carolina vs. UCF prediction as part of our college football picks.

UCF is teetering between a 6.5 and 7-point favorite. Has Bill Belichick made the necessary adjustments to win a game of this magnitude after laying an egg in a 48-14 season-opening loss to TCU?

Kickoff from Orlando is set for 3:30 p.m. ET (FOX), and it’s all part of our college football predictions for Week 4.

⚔️ UCF -6.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

After opening as a 5.5-point favorite, the one-sided action of UCF receiving 75% of the early wagers forced oddsmakers to raise this line by as much as 1.5 points to the key number of seven. But I do not expect the line movement to stop there, which is why I am rushing to the betting windows to back the Knights at the standard -110 juice at less than a touchdown.

UCF is amid a 15-game winning streak under head coach Scott Frost. Its defense has allowed just 17 points through two games, and its offense has had two games to gel around the only returning starter, tackle Paul Rubelt.

This will be a fascinating chess match between Frost’s high-octane offense and Belichick’s defense that wants to play disciplined and slow the tempo at all costs.

Frost and UCF seem like a match made in heaven in his second stint with the school. Though it has come across two different stints, he has not lost as Knights head coach since 2016, and I am not buying North Carolina’s problems being fixed after winning two games against Charlotte and Richmond.

The Tar Heels allowed Horned Frogs running back Kevorian Barnes to average 7.0 yards per touch in Week 1. That was the most by any running back playing against a Power Four conference opponent that week and should spell doom when Frost uses his stable of running backs to go up-tempo.

With all the other best sports betting sites that have TCU -6.5 charging -115 in juice to lay the points, I am taking advantage of the better price and 52.38% implied probability at FanDuel. Through the -110 odds, a $10 winning wager would net $9.09 in profits.

🔍 North Carolina vs. UCF odds analysis

After the early point spread wagers were 3/1 in favor of UCF, oddsmakers moved the line immediately from -5.5 to as high as -7 in less than 24 hours on Sunday. The majority of the best sports betting apps that remain at -6.5 are juiced to -115, which means it is likely just a matter of time before those align with the rest of the market at the key number of -7.

The total has seen a similar increase from an opening number of 49.5, which is as high as 50.5 now at DraftKings. North Carolina has allowed just nine points over its last two games, but the public is likely more concerned with the 48 points the Tar Heels allowed at home in the season opener.

How do college football odds work?

When betting on college football odds, the point spread shows how many points the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -3 must win by more than 3 points to cover the spread, while an underdog at +3 must win outright or lose by fewer than 3 points to cover the spread.

Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total will be higher or lower than the set number.
