After a controversial decision by the selection committee granted Miami the final at-large spot in the CFP bracket, the Hurricanes took advantage with a gutsy 10-3 win over Texas A&M in the first round to set up this Cotton Bowl clash with Ohio State. The defending champions haven't played since a Dec. 6 loss to Indiana in the Big Ten title game, which was just the Buckeyes' second game all year decided by fewer than 18 points.

I'm expecting a sharp performance from the Buckeyes in this get-right spot after a long layoff, which should be enough to pull away late.

Can money buy a championship? Both teams in this year's Orange Bowl have leaned into the player compensation era with billionaire benefactors to build out two of the best rosters in college football. Oregon is hungry to overcome last year's CFP flameout behind Heisman contender Dante Moore, while Texas Tech hopes its star-studded defense will be enough to keep pace with the Ducks' speed in Miami.

The Ducks are more efficient on offense and stingier on defense than last year's top-seeded squad, and they're more explosive with Dante Moore behind center alongside arguably the deepest backfield in college football. Texas Tech boasts the best roster in the state - a feat in its own right - but Dan Lanning's defense should make the requisite stops to punch a ticket to the semifinals.

The best story in college football continues Thursday with top-seeded Indiana making its playoff debut following the first undefeated season in school history. The Hoosiers have looked every bit like the best team in the country behind Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza - the early favorite to be the No. 1 pick - though Alabama QB Ty Simpson has flashed superstar upside while leading the Crimson Tide on a late-season rally to reach the Rose Bowl and a berth in the CFP quarterfinal.

Which Alabama team will we see on Thursday - the one that fell behind 21-0 in the first round against Oklahoma, or the one that rallied to eventually win by 10? If the answer is anywhere in between, I just don't think it'll be enough against Indiana, which has played virtually flawless ball for four months under the nation's best coach in Curt Cignetti. Don't sleep on the Hoosiers.

🏈 Ole Miss vs. Georgia predictions & odds (Jan. 1 @ 8 p.m. ET)
The only CFP matchup to feature a rematch from the regular season, this year's Sugar Bowl should be worth the price of admission if it resembles that 43-35 win for Georgia on Oct. 18. That came with Lane Kiffin still coaching Ole Miss, though the most polarizing coach in college football has since taken his talents to Baton Rouge - leaving the Rebels under the command of defensive coordinator Pete Golding, who led the team to a workmanlike 41-10 win in the first round over Tulane to set up this rematch.

I would love to project some optimism for Ole Miss fans, who have been through enough over the last few weeks, but this is a pretty rough matchup for the Rebels against a familiar opponent that always seems to level up for the postseason. Georgia took over that first game down the stretch to win by eight, and it demolished Alabama in the SEC title game. I'm expecting this one to be decided before the final drive.
