The ACC takes center stage Friday night at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va., and you know I’m coming strong with my best Cal vs. Virginia Tech player prop bets for this nationally televised battle (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
Although the Hokies are a consensus 5.5-point betting favorite at home, I’m actually fading their starting quarterback with one of my college football picks. My two other top prop selections focus on a pair of skill-position players for the Golden Bears as part of dozens of college football predictions for Week 9.

💰 Best Cal vs. Virginia Tech player props
Our college football player prop odds tool shows the best odds for every market across legal sportsbooks in your area.
Kyron Drones player prop: ⬇️ Under 195.5 passing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Back in Week 4, Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones went 27-for-32 for 307 yards and two touchdowns. The opponent? Wofford, an FCS outfit. Drones’ yardage output in three subsequent games against ACC competition: 177 (N.C. State), 111 (Wake Forest), and 181 (Georgia Tech). Drones also mustered just 134 yards in Week 2 against Vanderbilt.
Of those four opponents, only Wake Forest (27th) ranks in the top 50 in pass defense. Meanwhile, California fields the 46th-best pass defense (201.1 yards per game). In the Golden Bears’ last six games, only Duke’s Darian Mensah topped 205 yards. Mensah is the nation’s second-leading passer, but his 265 yards against California remain his season low.
Play this California vs. Virginia Tech player prop at Caesars. The -114 odds imply a 53.27% win probability, and a $10 wager could return $8.77.
Jacob De Jesus player prop: ⬆️ Over 56.5 receiving yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐
California quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has two clear-cut favorite receivers: Trond Grizzell and Jacob De Jesus. Grizzell has done more with less (24 catches, 400 yards), but DeJesus has seen more action (47 catches, 406 yards). So in a way, this player prop was a bit of a toss-up.
In the end, despite Grizzell’s big-play capabilities, I’m siding with De Jesus because of his consistency. The UNLV transfer is coming off a stellar 13-reception, 105-yard performance against North Carolina. Grizzell’s numbers in the same game: zero catches, zero yards. De Jesus has at least 54 receiving yards in five of his last six outings, and he’s in the midst of the best three-game stretch (222 yards) of his 34-game collegiate career.
FanDuel’s -114 odds lead the market and carry a 53.27% implied win probability. Collect $8.77 on a winning $10 bet.

🔥 Kendrick Raphael to score anytime touchdown (-124) ⭐⭐⭐
I hate not getting plus-money odds on this California vs. Virginia Tech player prop. And to be honest, I seriously considered rolling with Golden Bears quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele for two reasons: He has two rushing TDs, and quarterbacks have bulldozed the Hokies at the goal line this season. The problem is, Sagapolutele’s 32 carries have netted minus-27 rushing yards. So I can’t trust him, even at a price north of 4-to-1.
Instead, I’ll back Kendrick Raphael, who leads California in carries with 115 (81 more than any other Golden Bears player), 495 yards (378 more than anyone else), and five touchdowns. Four of those scores have come in the last three games, so Raphael is running hot. He’ll also be running against a Virginia Tech defense that has allowed 14 rushing scores in seven games.
FanDuel’s -124 price pencils out to a 55.36% implied win probability. Risk $10 to collect $8.07.
