The Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission awarded 10 mobile sports betting licenses Wednesday, November 16 including Barstool Sportsbook, Betfred, DraftKings Sportsbook, BetMGM, PointsBet, FanDuel Sportsbook, betPARX, BetRivers, Caesars, and Fanatics. Not all 10 operators will be live in the state for the Maryland sports betting launch day which is set for Wednesday, Nov. 23.

It’s been an eventful two-plus years for sports bettors in Maryland. In that time, the state has added in-person sports betting wagers at casinos and now mobile sports betting is ready to take off.

Part of the delay from the legislators is due to the concern that the market will be dominated by some of the bigger players listed above. In turn, Maryland is hoping for the approval of some smaller and locally owned companies.

Several other sportsbooks will have their eyes set on Maryland as they continue to ponder over more sportsbooks opening in the state. Considering the success that mobile sports betting has generated in other states that have legalized it this year, it will be intriguing to see what happens in the coming months.
