Alberta’s new iGaming regulator, the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), has announced that it has partnered with responsible gambling non-profit, the Responsible Gaming Council (RGC), ahead of the province’s anticipated iGaming market launch.

The collaboration will ensure that the RGC’s responsible gambling accreditation tool, RG Check, becomes a mandatory approval system for all bidding iGaming operators seeking to operate in the Alberta sports betting and Alberta online casinos markets.

According to the AiGC, the partnership underscores its commitment to providing a safe gaming market that prioritizes responsible gambling measures.

"Alberta is committed to building a safer, regulated iGaming environment where player protection comes first," said Dan Keene, Interim AiGC CEO. "By requiring RG Check accreditation, we're ensuring that every iGaming operator in our market has demonstrated their commitment to player safety through independent verification of their responsible gambling programs."

RG Check is a responsible gambling accreditation program developed by the Canadian-based RGC. It helps evaluate operators against evidence-based data and ensures that platforms are up to scratch with responsible gambling measures, such as player safeguards, staff training, and marketing accuracy.

"This partnership with AiGC demonstrates the power of regulators and responsible gambling experts working together to protect players from day one," said Sarah McCarthy, RGC CEO. "Alberta is building on a strong foundation established in Ontario, where RG Check has proven its value in creating safer gambling environments. This proactive approach ensures that player protection isn't an afterthought; it's built into the market from the ground up."

Now, if operators want to apply for a license in Alberta, they must achieve accreditation from RG Check and maintain it, while the AiGC and RGC continue to work together to ensure operator compliance in the market.

BetRivers unveils pre-registration in Alberta

As Alberta gears up for its iGaming market launch, several operators have already announced pre-registration links for users to register before the market takes effect, including sportsbook and casino operator BetRivers

Earlier in the month, the operator revealed its pre-registration link, alongside the appeal of exclusive promotional offers for those who sign up early.

The announcement also coincided with BetRivers' partnership with Canadian broadcaster CBC for CBC’s broadcast of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano Cortina. The partnership marks the third time the two have collaborated, with BetRivers serving as CBC’s sole sports betting partner ahead of the games.

"Canada continues to be a priority growth market for BetRivers, and Alberta represents an exciting next step. With an office and large employee base in Toronto and a growing presence across the country, we've been building and investing in Canada for years. We've seen strong momentum in Ontario since launching in 2022, and through our continued partnership with CBC and our Olympic activations, we're showing that we're all-in on Canada for the long term," said Richard Schwartz, CEO at Rush Street Interactive.
