#4169Haha this is getting exciting, but it could also be a heart-breaking 5th set as Hewitt breaks twice in a row and takes the 4th set 6-4.
Mathieu will all sorts of unforced errors. I hope he keeps the shaky play going...Comment -

#4173The only reason I didn't even think of taking Hewitt in a parlay is because of my complete embargo on any matches involving French players. I just can't get them right lately, either way.

#4174Yeah well I threw him into my parlay after talking myself off Bellucci and Ivanovic as the 2nd leg with Nishikori. Again, why I don't just trust my gut instinct is why I keep giving money back to the books. Agree on the French aspect, that is why I don't do anything regarding Chardy. I've backed Mathieu as a dog this summer and got F-ed. Monfils F-ed me once in a parlay. Maybe you're onto something with boycotting the French.Comment -

#4177The only pick I really hate myself for making today was Smyczek because it wasn't one I originally even thought of .. well that and passing on the OVER for Kendrick-Monfils because it was probably the 1st total I wanted to see when they posted it. Should have left it at a 2-3 day and I would have taken my lumps. Oh well, onto Tuesday. I need some good MoJo and some people start figuring out how to get those hurricanes away from the East Coast because so help me if the one year I have tickets to see not one, but TWO sessions of the US Open a friggin hurriance's remnants rain the shit out on my days, I am going to choke a bitch named Mother Nature.Comment -

#4180If it's the same as the Aus Open, you can either have tickets for specific matches which are more expensive or a ground pass which lets you pop in and out of the lower court matches for much cheaper. People here even pay $30-50 and never walk into a court. They just sit outside in the beer gardens and get pissed watching matches on big screens and watch players practice.Comment -

#4184Depends on pricing, but 4th round vs. Roddick is where I had Davydenko faltering. If Roddick loses before then, I'd take Davydenko to the QFs and MAYBE hedge there, but it's all about the match-ups as we go. As long as he plays strong against Gasquet in Round 2, I don't see a reason to even consider a hedge in the 3rd round against Anderson or Bellucci.Comment -

U.S. OPEN TUESDAY PLAYS
PARLAY: LOPEZ + BENNETEAU [+133]
Lopez draws Giraldo. This is a bit of a test here as Lopez has been hideous this summer, but Giraldo is just hapless on hard courts. Giraldo has lost his last five straight on outdoor hard courts in ATP main draws. He's never won in the main draw in NY and has never won a main draw Grand Slam match. Lopez lost his last three on hard courts this summer, but that has been his M.O. in not really giving two shits about non-Slams. He's crashed out in the first round the last two trips to NY, but this draw seems his for the taking so long as he serves well. Benneteau draws Stepanek and if you don't have an aversion to Stepanek this year, you should. He had a run in New Haven, but it came against a lack of quality and at this point, I don't think his fitness is in tune with playing a best of 5 match. Benneteau isn't the greatest on hard courts, but when his serve is working, he is a fighter on hard courts. This is one that while I'd rather see Benneteau flat dominate from the beginning, the longer this goes, the better it could work for Benneteau.

#4195Benneteau, I think. If he comes ready to play, I think he's got the fitness and game advantage over Stepanek right now. Lopez could theoretically lay an egg even though his match-up is very favorable because his form doesn't suggest much. Benneteau is also cheaper now at about -160.
As for Monaco, I know Stacocakes likes him today a lot. Even without much match play, he should have an advantage over Polansky who has never won in the main draw at Slam so far. A little risky, but potentially rewarding.Last edited by EaglesPhan36; 08-31-10, 08:16 AM.Comment -

#4197DOLGOPOLOV-FERRER OVER 37.5 [-125]
This figures to be one of the more entertaining matches of the day in theory. They met in Cincinnati and Dolgopolov took a set from Ferrer before eventually losing in 3. The young Ukrainian has a real chance to further cement his name in that "breakout" category if he does something special today. Hard courts may not be his best surface at this point, but he's proven useful on it. The big thing for Dolgopolov to be successful against a great returner/defender like Ferrer is getting his 1st serve in. The more looks Ferrer gets at his 2nd serve, the less success Dologpolov will have. Ferrer also is not at home on hard courts, but again is serviceable here. Even though he played just four matches on the surface this summer, he played fairly well and battled hard. I would be shocked if either guy sweeps this in straights, meaning in my mind that it goes at least four sets. Set at 37.5, that means 38 games would be needed for the win which would feature scorelines like 6-3, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. This is my favorite total of the day.Comment -

#4199PARLAY: MANNARINO + ROBREDO + GINEPRI [-108]
I loathe myself in advance for making a parlay with more than two selections, but in looking these three matches over .. I don't see the underdogs springing much of a shock. Mannarino draws Riba and while the price in Mannarino should make you laugh [-515], anyone who saw Riba's attempt at playing on hard courts against Blake knows this one maybe ought to be closer to -1000. Mannarino has been very handy on the Challenger level on hard courts in 2010 with four finals appearances and one title to his credit. His serve should be a factor against Riba. Robredo draws Grand Slam virgin Rosol and while Robredo's 2010 hasn't been very good, he's shown a little life this summer. Robredo generally plays pretty well at the US Open despite hard courts not being his best surface. Getting someone like Rosol who rarely plays this surface and may fit into the "happy to be here" mold should be what the Spaniard needs to get the win today. Ginepri draws Schwank, another guy who usually avoids this surface. Schwank wasn't embrassing in losing to Dent & Verdasco this summer in his two hard court matches, but this is a guy who seems to lose sets 6-0 a lot. His only good results on this surface have come at the Challenger level. Ginepri was 3-3 during the summer swing with losses to Davydenko, Fish and Schuettler. At the US open, Ginepri rarely loses his opener. In fact, he's only lost twice in the 1st round in nine trips now and both those were to a guy named Andre Agassi. Schwank has lost seven straight 1st round matches at Slams and his only Slam wins came at the French Open on his preferred surface back in 2008. Ginepri may not always look flashy, but I think he gets it done.Comment -

#4200Lopez gets the timely break and serves out the 1st set, 6-4. Seems if Lopez keeps his errors down, there really isn't anything Giraldo is going to do. Giraldo has zero winners and zero errors, zero aces. F-Lo has 8 aces, 3 winners, 3 errors.Comment
